New Place…Very nice!!!
After booking on impulse, I belatedly looked at the Tripadvisor site for comments. For once I am glad I had ignored the advice!
We really enjoyed our stay in this fine hotel. The hotel is unashamedly a conference venue that does weddings and functions at the weekend, but once we get over the initial shock we were very pleased with the hotel.
On arrival we were greeted by helpful, friendly check-in staff and were directed to our room. The rooms are chalet-style, rather like a very up-market motel, separate from both the reception and the main hotel building. Our room was described as ‘classic’, which usually means ‘basic’, but when we entered we were delighted to find a fresh, clean, modern room, nicely decorated. All mod-cons – even a heated mirror in the bathroom to stop it steaming up! I guess some of the other rooms are even bigger and better.
We chose to eat in the restaurant, where the service and the food were both fantastic. It is a lovely setting, and there are several different rooms – presumably they do functions sometimes.
The gardens and grounds are lovely. There is lots of space, and we were hardly aware of the wedding party in the suite at the opposite side of the site.
Breakfast was good, with guests spread out between different rooms (wedding guests in the largest), and the staff were attentive even when they were busy.
The hotel were only let down by a couple of our fellow guests, who went to their rooms rather noisily, but that can happen at any hotel!
Recommend you give this place a try!

Read some of the previous reviews with dismay, but we found the facilities at the hotel were excellent. Two weddings were on but they certainly didn't cause any problems. The rooms were plenty big enough, the swimming pool was good. Our evening meal was excellent and we would certainly stay there again. Liked the room with the complimentary cappuchinos and coffees etc and use of the computer which I used to check out a place we were planning to visit. Great woodland walk in grounds

This hotel appears to be a conference or training venue in the week and a wedding factory at weekends. The grounds are well kept and there are some lovely gardens - just right for that wedding photo, etc. The big house is quite smart too but it is where all the events and functions happen. The accomodation is out at the back and I have to say, it felt more like a travelodge than a 4-star hotel. The walls were paper thin and you could hear everything from the neighbouring rooms. The room only had a shower as well. The Spa and gym is in a basement and the hotel is too cheap to staff it so you have to sign in and get the entry code from the reception and the facilities were positively average in my opinion. If you go at a weekend when there is a wedding or function happening, they will be too busy to serve any food for any non-wedding function guests which means you will be left with the choices of ordering in or a 10-15 minutes walk to a local pub!!! All in all, although the place is nice, the staff are friendly and very helpful, I wouldn't go back here again - the rooms just let it down completely!

I do feel a lot of the reviews on here are pretty harsh on this property.
We stayed at the New Place on a saturday night and had a very pleasant stay.
The rooms are very nicely decorated - modern style - and were spotless.
There was a party going on in the main building but due to the seperate location of the rooms we didn't have any noise at all. I would recommend this hotel for someone looking for a good value for money property (We paid £59/room on a saturday night) in the Southampton area - but without the city centre location.
(We didn't try out the leisure facilities or restaurant.)
