having arrived at the dolphin for a family wedding i was at first shocked by the hotels interia because my first inpresions where its does not look that bad just small in in entranace area . then after waiting for a bit to be served i was told how to get to the car park whitch sounds easair than it is . after parking i unloaded my car and went to my room which luckly was much better than some of the others i was told about . the room was clean but poorly decorated with cracks in the ceiling and wallpaper falling of but at least it was clean with a comfy bed and clean sheets then there was the bathroom with a 1950s bath and a 2006 sink very odd mouldy bath mat and cracked window . although the location is spot on the holel could do with some decorators in not cowboys . also beware of hotel charges we had a special rate due to wedding but all guest where paying differant amounts untill told about problem when refunds where offered to make it all the agreed price also beware the price of drinks in the upstairs function room are more than down stairs

We stayed in the dolphin hotel for one night. We found the staff very couteous and obliging, although the room was a little on the small side, it was spotlessley clean. We sayed on a bed and breakfast deal and found the restaurant staff very efficient and we had really nice hot food before we carried on with our journey. We would stay at this hotel again in the future.

Don’t be fooled by the publicity issued by this hotel. If you’re expecting “chic elegance”, you’re going to be very disappointed. This hotel seems to be trying desperately hard to be a stylish boutique property, complete with avant garde art in the rooms and trendy bars to be seen in. It fails on all counts. The ‘art’ that adorns its peeling-paint walls would shame a fourth-form art class. And as for the rooms themselves – poky accommodation, poor decoration, mildew in the bathrooms – you get the picture.

But it’s not all bad. The bars are actually rather nice, with a trendy, boho feel that works fairly well. You couldn’t get a much better location either. All in all, the Dolphin should concentrate on what it does well and stop trying to be what it clearly isn’t. And bring the room rates down!

The hotel is absolutely filthy, the breakfast cold and the staff, other than the male receptionist, miserable.

It is almost like a bodge it 'changing rooms'.

The room had blood on the wall, the bathroom was filthy and the hairdryer so dangerous we nearly set the room on fire.

They have gone for a contemporary modern style but it just looks cheap.

The carpets are missing runners and are filthy dirty and even one of the rails on the stairs broken making it dangerous for small children.

Having read some of the reviews I was naturally very cautious regarding a weekend break arranged by my partner.

The Dolphin is not perfect, which hotel is, but it is a lot of fun. We stayed Friday and Saturday night and ate in the restrauant on the Saturday. Our room was great bags of space with separate lounge and bedroom complete with lots of quirky features. We particuarly liked the DVD selection and eclectic choice of books. A little noisy on the Friday but the comfort of the bed soon rocked us both to sleep.

Dinner on the Saturday was a treat. Friendly but attentive service, good food cooked well and a cheerful happy ambience.

We loved the idiosyncratic art work around the place the happy and obliging staff and the fact that it was not a clone of every hotel you have ever stayed anywhere else in the world

We will certainlly be back
