We've stayed in this hotel before and enjoyed our stay, so booked again for a Christmas weekend away to take our 6 year old son to the pantomime. We paid for a Superior room which included extras such as drinks token and early check in which was a nice start, however when we went to the room it was small and looked like it had seen better days, plus when my husband opened up the sofa bed there was dirty tissues which had been stuffed down the back of the sofa. My husband had to go back to the main desk and spoke to a man at the main desk who arrange for housekeeping to go to the room and clean up, however we weren't offered another room of a better standard. As we weren't planning on spending too much time in the room and had already wasted time waiting for the room to be cleaned, we decided to get on with our trip and enjoy the day/evening out, however once back in the room about 10pm, with our son asleep, the fire alarm in the hotel went off, we had to wake our son to put coat/shoes on and he was very scared, but as we were walking out our room the alarm stopped, other guests were also out of the rooms wondering what to do and it was only when my husband called reception that we were told it was a false alarm, however it was a scary experience especially being on the top floor. We got a letter under our door about an hour later to apologise and say that the steamers in the kitchen had set the alarm off, I appreciate these things can't be helped, but it was still not something you expect in a hotel chain of this size and from other reviews I’ve read it’s not the first time it’s happened!! My son was very upset and wouldn't go back to sleep as he wanted to leave. It wasn't a nice end to our day and it took a good couple of hours until we felt comfortable to go to bed, so we were all tired the next day.
The staff were friendly, especially at breakfast and the breakfast selection was good, however the room and fire alarm experience let our trip down. The room was smaller and of a lower quality than the last time we stayed, which I don't know if this is anything to do with the fact we booked through a 3rd party website this time. I've heard this means you're not generally expected to be a repeat customer, so don't get allocated as nice a room as you would if you booked directly through the hotel, we would definitely have been repeat customers, but wouldn't stay again due to the room and overall experience on this visit.

Room Tip: Book directly through the hotel

Stopped for a night the day before we were going to join the cruise ship.
When we arrived it was very busy but check in went well.
Had booked 2 rooms one for 2 people and the other for 3 when we went upstairs both rooms were just for 2 so had to go back down and swap rooms which they did but the room we were then given had a very strong smell of smoke which wasn't pleasant at all.
Slept well room comfortable but nothing special.
Breakfast was ok again nothing special.
I have stayed here a couple of times but must say from my first stop there a few years ago I think it has defiantly gone down hill.

Good hotel chain, know what you are getting. V.reasonable price. Perfect location for event at O2 Guildhall Southampton. Late check out so able to have lie in after partying the night away. Good breakfast choice.

Needs some attention - rooms have become tired, baths far too small and shower not attached properly- Could be great City Hotel if more care was taken regarding some facilities - Parking needs to be addressed

We recently enjoyed a pre-cruise stay at this Jurys Inn. We found the standard of the room, which had 1 double & 1 singled bed, to be very comfortable and better furnished than other chain hotels that charge a similar rate.
We enjoyed some lunch in the restaurant but ate out in the evening as the restaurant was closed for a Xmas party.
There is parking under the hotel and we were not charged for this as the receptionist validated our ticket.
Would definitely use this hotel again if in Southampton.

Room Tip: This hotel is situated on a busy roundabout so perhaps rooms higher up would be less noisy. We were...

Myself, my husband, my son (12) and my Daughter (3) stayed at this hotel after a day at Peppa Pig World, and it was chosen because of its proximity to the West Quay shopping centre. We booked a superior double with sofa bed. We arrived and checked in, the reception area looks good and the staff were pleasant. When we reached our room we were shocked. The room was poorer than the premier inn we had stayed in the night before and nearly double the price! It was dull and drab and the sofa bed was tiny. There was only just enough room for my 3 yr old let alone my 12 year old too! It hadn't even been made up for our arrival! We had none of the superior upgrades as booked. I went to reception and spoke to a lovely Lady called Sam she was the saving grace for this Hotel! She looked into it and we were moved rooms and although we were advised that the sofa bed is a double (which it isn't) when we got to the new room housekeeping bought in an extra bed. We got complimentary drinks for the hassle and Sam also arranged for a special dessert for my daughters bday! She did so much to help us but in reality she shouldn't of had to. If I book a superior room I should get one not hassle them to give me one. In the end the only difference between that and a standard room was complimentary water and biscuits! We had no 10% discount for lunch/dinner as advertised, no free Costa coffee, no newspaper and no iron, all as advertised! And the quality of the rooms were poor compared to a premier inn. As in previous reviews, I agree that they seem to have spent all the money in the bar and reception area and seem to have spent nothing on the rooms. The restaurant was nice and food was good, service was a little slow but the restaurant was very busy so was tolerable. Breakfast was buffet style and very pleasant no complaints! The staff were ok, some a little hard to understand but helpful enough with any problems or questions we had but Sam stood out by a mile. If it wasn't for her effort I would have rated this hotel as 1 or 2 out of 5! The hotel should be very proud of her she is a gem in their workforce!
The hotel is close to the shopping areas, the docks and St Mary's Football Stadium so is good for those that want to explore but the rooms are budget at a high cost and seen as there are other hotels nearby at around the same price i am not sure what makes this one stand out. Despite Sam's efforts, I'm not sure I would stay here again if I had a choice. Also finding parking was very confusing and we ended up in the underground carpark and had to pay £23 for less than 24hrs parking! So beware, make sure you find the correct one that the website says is £5 for 24 hours or you could end up like us...shocked!
