“Very good for business stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013 via mobile

I stayed here for two nights as I was in business in the area. The reception staff were very helpful and very friendly.

The room was reasonably spacious and clean but there was some mould around the bath which I think could easily be cleaned off.

The hotel charges £10 for 24 hours of wifi which is ridiculously expensive. I expressed my displeasure and was given a free of charge wifi code for my stay.

I'll be staying in the hotel again this weekend so I hope the bathroom is cleaner than room 611.

I stayed at Jurys for 3 nights during last october. Quiet rooms even if it was very crowded. A good bar. With parking (6 £ a day). Perhaps the breakfast is a little expensive, but only if you want it.
It's in a good position, near to the town center and to Itchen Bridge.

Last year I had reason to complain about this hotel due to the overlong waiting times for food in the bar - I'm pleased to say that this has now been somewhat remedied (twenty minutes wait for burgers) although the waiting staff did try to give our food to someone else, even insisting to another member of staff that it wasn't our meal!
The check-in was smooth, the check-out equally so. The room was clean and adequate. The breakfast is really rather nice, and entirely set us up for the day.
Again, though, the lighting is lacking. It is impossible to apply makeup in the room after dark as the lighting is so dim. It also makes for a rather depressive feeling.

A COUPLE OF POINTS THAT I SEE PEOPLE ASKING ABOUT:
We were on the tenth floor but still had excellent water pressure (in fact the shower was positively hammering). At this level we suffered no traffic noise at night.

***CAR PARK*** To access the car park, exit the roundabout (which surrounds the hotel) on the exit marked "RSH" (hospital) then move into the right hand lane. You'll then be at a traffic lit junction opposite a row of shops. Turn right at this junction (you'll be heading south) for a few metres until you see a bright purple building on your right hand side. Turn down the side of this building (Compton Walk) and you'll see the entrance to the car park in front of you. Take a ticket from the barrier and park. There is a small lift to ground level (only one storey up) or a wide set of stairs. Upon leaving the hotel, ask at reception for your parking ticket to be validated - this will allow you a discount on the parking BUT DOES NOT MAKE IT FREE. You pay at a yellow machine in the car park and then use the ticket to exit the barrier. We paid £12.90 for 48 hours parking.

I have stayed in this hotel many times as an overnight stay prior to a cruise vacation. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. The breakfast buffet is good. Unfortunately we had a problem with rowdy noisy behaviour throughout the night until about 5am. There are patrols during the night by staff but last night the guests involved chose to ignore requests to keep the noise down. Perhaps more warnings around the hotel may help and maybe a fine imposed if persisting behaviour. Smokers are fined these days for smoking in hotel rooms so maybe this is the way to go to try and resolve problems. We may just have been unlucky, but will consider other hotels in future.

Dear numberoneroversfan

Thank you for your review.

It is disappointing to read your stay was affected by other guests being thoughtless, I hope you do return again soon and should you encounter any repeat of this please contact the hotel reception and a manager will deal with this straightaway.

In regards to smoking we do operate a non smoking policy in the hotel.

Kind regards

I stayed here with my family in July 2013. We booked 2 rooms ahead of our stay, but was told at reception that we only had one room booked. So had to pay for the second room. After checking our original booking it was definitely for 2 rooms, so we were double charged for the second room. Having brought this up at reception and not having the issue resolved, I took it up as a complaint and emailed all the details to Jury's Inn Southampton. For tow months my emails were ignored until I eventually got someone to investigate the complaint. Now they say there is only one booking and one payment which is not true as there is definitely two payments for the two rooms from two separate people. 3 months on no refund for the second rooms double payment. Customer service here is very poor.

Always the same high standard. We spend 60 plus nights a year here and it's just like coming home. There's always a pleasant greeting. The reception team are better than ever. The food and beverage side of the business are excellent. The rooms are always spotless and comfortable. Great value for money.
