“Welcoming Hotel with great customer service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

Recently I have wondered if the hospitality industry is no more in the UK, however this hotel restored my faith. The staff are genuinely friendly, helpful, smart and accommodating.
The Hotel was smart and clean throughout, and we will be booking again in future.
I had a sore back when I got up on the Saturday morning and the Beautician found time to fit me in for a massage, which was super.
We enquired about booking a Sunday lunch, but they were fully booked, however they managed to fit our party in on an early table which was perfect for us. The menu had the trusty meals expected and some interesting specials and more unusual dishes. I had a fig and date tart for desert, the pastry was superb and the fruit delicious. Beautifully presented too.
At breakfast there was a very good selection which included all the favourites and less common dishes like eggs Benedict or Florentine.
Great value for money.

Thank you very much for your review. We are pleased that we have helped restore your faith and that most aspects of your stay were enjoyable. We're pleased you enjoyed both your massage and the roast dinner. If you are ever staying in Southampton again we hope you stay with us.

Booked tickets for the Mayflower Theatre and wanted to spend the night in Southampton rather than travel home afterwards. Found this hotel by using Google Map and it was in a perfect location only about a 15 minute walk away from the hotel.

It represented very good value for money, we had the £100 DBB rate for a double room and were able to have our evening meal early before the theatre performance. We enjoyed our 3 course meal and our breakfast, all lovely ingredients, well presented and perfectly cooked. We met the owner, Elliot that evening when we returned and enjoyed a couple of drinks in their welcoming bar. Also met Laura and Zoe. If you prefer smaller hotels and want a good quality 3 star hotel with decent rooms, friendly staff and good food all at a reasonable price and in a relatively central location, then I would say look no further. We had room no 1 which was beautifully decorated and very clean, comfortable bed and good shower. We would definitely return to this hotel if/when we travel to Southampton for another theatre trip. I believe Elliot took over the hotel a couple of years ago and has decorated all the bedrooms. If they're all the same standard as the one we slept in, you honestly can't go wrong.

It would be nice to enjoy their patio and garden in the better weather. The breakfast room was light and airy and the food was cooked fresh to order, plenty of filter coffee, juice etc. Also noted that they have a beauty room with very reasonable priced treatments, can also book an afternoon tea, this looked lovely too.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us prior to and after your theater visit- we're glad you enjoyed all of the food consumed and found it to be good value for money. We hope next time you come you have time to have a relaxing treatment in the salon and perhaps even have time for Afternoon Tea- it is a real treat! We look forward to welcoming you in the future.

We stay at The Blue Keys when visiting family in Southampton. It means that we have our own base. We have stayed there several times and always find the staff helpful and accommodating. Our room has always been very comfortable and it is a nice quiet spot whilst being fairly close to the centre of Southampton.

Elliot and his staff made us very welcome. We stayed for 10 nights and felt like part of the family. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast and restaurant menus were very imaginative and all the food was home cooked and delicious served at comfortable highly polished tables. It was fabulous to be able to book beauty and health treatments too in a comfortable environment. I would recommend The Blue Keys for a stay and also their restaurant for a wonderful dining experience. A Big Thank you !

My wife and I have just completed a three night stay at the Blue Keys, which we consider is more like a glorified guest house rather than an hotel. Located in a quiet part near Marshall Square, so little problem with traffic noise. Check-in was quick and efficient, and the en-suite bedroom was clean, bright and fresh-smelling. However, we soon found that one of the bedside lights had no bulb (quickly replaced by staff), and one of the beds had a loose headboard, which was easy to knock on the wall when turning over whilst asleep.... The heating had to be turned off altogether at night, as the thermostat clanked noisily all the time. Plenty of hot water in the en-suite, but why no hand towels...?

The lounge and bar had a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere, with a good range of ales and wines available - the adjoining dining room was something else, and probably the biggest disappointment in this establishment. Dark and gloomy, dark wood tables and chairs, dark green carpet, all made it rather depressing for us. Breakfast was served there, on bare tables (why no table cloths..?) with side plate, paper napkin with single spoon, knife & fork on top - not a cup and saucer in sight.... Contrary to other reviewers, we found that the breakfast was very basic.. - the menu was divided into two parts, the first offering any 2 items (such as fruit platter plus bacon sandwich etc), the second offering one dish only (full English, or scrambled egg & smoked salmon, all with toast) - if you wanted fruit or cereal with this section, that's another GBP1.50 thank you..! To us, this all reminds us of a sort of Greasy Spoon - one of the owners is a chef, we understand, and the hotel serves lunches and dinners, but we have to say, given our breakfast experience, not sure we'd want to try other meals.

The staff were very willing, pleasant and helpful, and overall cleanliness was very good, and apart from these few niggles, our stay was comfortable enough, and no traffic noise was a real pleasure..!

Having said all this, the Blue Keys serves a purpose, and doubtless has many loyal guests. Will we stay again...? The jury is out just now...

Room Tip: Don't have breakfast there..!

Stayed here for new Years day 2014 with friends. Can't say anything bad in fact it's all good! Room was great, with a very good service. Loved the complementary treats, etc. . The service was second to none and the food was top notch and everyone had a relaxing time and enjoyed their stay. Will definitely stay there again!

Being self employed I spend a great deal of time in hotels all across the country. and for the past 6 months I have been working in Southampton, initially I was looking for somewhere cheap to stay that was a good central location near to the train station, and booked in for a week. I was pleasantly surprised at what I got for my money. Not only was the food exceptional and rooms very spacious, clean and well furnished but the atmosphere and service was second to none. I have stayed in hotels that are double and treble the price where the service is no where near as good. The staff are welcoming, engaging and very helpful and always have a smile for me. I enjoyed the first week so much I have been returning week after week for the past 6 months. I would recommend the hotel to anyone who is working in the area or on holiday in Southampton. If you are lucky may also get to stay when they have one of their live entertainment nights on which are very entertaining indeed especially the Sunday Jazz sessions.
