We stayed for two nights in a Superior room (Queen Size bed and Sofa) prior to our cruise. The hotel was easy to find and get to (we used the National Express Coach bus from Heathrow to Southampton). The hotel is about 1/2 mile from the coach station. The hotel staff gladly accommodated our request to have a taxi available for transportation to the cruise ship. This was indicative of how friendly and helpful the staff was. Check-in and check-out were a breeze.

The room was clean, spacious and bright. The television is a 20" LCD flat screen display - very sharp and a welcome change to the normal large television sets that take up a lot of room on the dresser top. The bathroom was basic and clean. It had all the shampoo, soap and lotion amenities.

Out in the front parking lot there is a McDonald's and TGIF restaurant. Further on is a moderate sized shopping center and about a mile away is the large West Quay shopping mall. About a mile in the other direction is the Odeon theater complex which was showing first run movies. The main train station is north about a mile away. It may be a little tricky to walk to and from with luggage because it is across a major highway and there are steps up and down a bridge if you take a direct route.

The Ibis hotel is next to the Novotel at a cheaper rate but we opted to take the better furnished Novotel. We chose not to book the room with the "breakfast included" option because it did not appear to be worth it. The hotel restaurant appeared clean and tidy though we never got around to actually using it. Overall, we were extremely satisfied and would definitely book at the Novotel again.

  • Tips/Secrets: — After booking, periodically check the room rates. The room rate may drop - if it does, cancel the old booking and re-book at the lower rate.

Stayed one night prior to boarding cruise ship. Hotel exterior somewhat drab, no hotel staff to greet you or offer to help with your luggage. Lift was extremely small, especially if carrying a large amount of luggage, (over 4 bags).A request to find the local shipping office was met with the response, "There is a phone book in your room". Room was ok, clean, small, basic furniture,no A/C . Europe was having a heat wave so glad only staying one night.
Hotel restaurant was ok but appeared to be short on staff. Food was adequate. The dining room manager served us.
If you are going to Southampton for an extended stay, I would skip the Novotel.

This was the second time we had stayed here this year and the standards of cleanliness and the helpful staff was maintained.

The hotel is well positioned for the shops and theatre and we would not hesitate to visit again.

I visited this hotel when I saw Bon Jovi at the footballl stadium (about 15 mins walk)

The room are a good size (we had a deluxe double) with seperate WC and shower. They do have a gym (well a running and rowing machine) but the swimming pool is excellent.

Would defo stay here again if visiting area (not to see Bon Jovi again I hope!!!)

The Novotel Southampton is a reasonable hotel close to the main shopping centre.

It's OK for business trips and overnight stays, for getting onto cruises etc (actually very handy for the terminal). I wouldn't use it for a weekend break or something special like that though as it is a fairly boring, the food is average and it's all overpriced.

Overall OK - Clean, safe, handily situated etc for an overnight stay.
