“Very unpleasant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2015 via mobile

Very unhappy with stay here. Rooms were dirty. Carpets had holes in. Bathroom was mouldy. Swimming pool and spa area dirty. Service was unpleasant with no friendliness or smiles. Parking is expensive aswell. Would avoid.

Nice people, trying hard. The decoration needs updating the room are behind times. I did not eat here but had a drink and watched the football. It is okay for a stop over if you are stuck but with so many other hotels around ,look else where first. TIP Packing is very difficult so drop off you luggage then find parking.

Room Tip: Drop your luggage first as there is a drive outside, the parking is not close so save the carrying

We had our Christmas party here in December 2014, everything was running late, our party was split even though we had requested to sit together, the room was stark and in need of modernization, decorating, the flooring was threadbare, there were no Christmas decorations other than a tree in reception and it did not look at all Christmassy,
The service was rushed and slap dash, the food was minimal which was fortunate in one sense because it was awful, you could not even cut the roast potatoes, there was not enough food to cover everyone chosen menu choices so some of us went without starters or desserts.
We made our complaints very clear on the night and was promised that the Manager would contact us the very next day, some weeks later I emailed to remind them I was still waiting to hear from the Manager and surprise surprise my email has been ignored too! Why should they bother or care they have had our money?
Dreadful, awful experience, don't make the same mistake as we did, it will ruin your Christmas celebration!! Wish I could give it a zero star rating but it doesn't give that option!

Have the greatest of respect for all members of staff at the Southampton Park Hotel, Absolutely nothing was a bother for them, they were constantly checking to make sure our group was ok. From checking in to checking out they were cheerful and friendly.

Our Christmas meal was lovely and service prompt and efficient. Breakfast Choices were vast and the relaxed atmosphere meant we could all sit and chat with our hot or cold drinks without feeling we had to vacate the restaurant

Rooms were a little bit tired but could not fault the cleanliness.

We all agree it was excellent value for money

Room Tip: Request a balcony, corner rooms a slightly larger and brighter.

Room poor with stains, rusty plug chain in bath.Toilet didn't flush properly and dirty.Heated towel rail on constant and very hot.Lighting in room terrible.Carpet stained.
Only able to eat in the bar. Be careful if charging food to your room as you may get double charged.
Staff seem not to know what hotel protocol is.
Wifi only available in and around reception.
NO CAR PARKING FACILITIES provided, but there is a multi storey next door at £3 a night after 6pm.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel

If you are looking for a chic modern hotel then keep looking, but if you come in with a bit of a sense of humour and not expecting much then you'll be fine.
The hotel is in desperate need of modernisation - the bathroom suite in room 209 is the same as the one my parents installed in their house in the early 1990s. There seem to be a few plumbing problems too - the hot tap on the bath dripped unless tightened more than I can manage, and in other rooms my friends reported showers either not working or water running from one extreme temperature to another.
The room was very run down but the bed was clean and comfortable.
The staff are very friendly and are definitely characters - very much up for a good laugh.
I wouldn't recommend eating there though - the dinner for our company Christmas party was awful (my broccoli and cheese pithivier was raw and came with dry vegetables - not very appetising) and the cooked breakfast was served with very small portions for the price.
My biggest bugbear was the price though - had I been paying less then I would happily stay here again, but for a £66 advance RO non refundable rate I'd hesitate next time.
Lower their prices and this hotel would be a great little option.

Bit outdated and carpets were grubby. Most irritating part was shower was blocked but it was reasonably priced, great location as it was walking distance to theatre and town, otherwise clean and comfortable and friendly staff. Got what we paid for really.
