My wife and I stopped for one night. Usually stop in hotels but this Guest House sounded so we good we had to give it a try, we were not dissapointed. The owners Mark and Sian were great, very welcoming, and the place is beautifull. An old Victorian house which has been converted in a tastefull and stylish way. The breakfast next day was great, the way the tomatoes were presented, unusual to say the least. We used it as a base to visit the Isle of Wight for the day, the Guest House being only a 10/15 walk from the Hoverport at Southsea, and about a 30 minute walk from Gunwarf Quay in Portsmouth on the way back. Parking is limited outside, but the area has a controlled parking zone, so you get a pass from Mark and it is no problem. This really is a gem.

What a wonderful place and what wonderful owners. The Retreat is beautiful, perfectly placed and wonderfully serviced. Mark and Sian could not have been more helpful. The rooms are superb, as was the breakfast. There are so many extra little touches that you simply don't find with other guesthouses.

I can't recommend the Retreat highly enough. You MUST stay here!

My wife and I stayed recently for one night on a Saturday when visiting our grandchildren nearby. We thought the room was very tastefully decorated and equipped and spotlessly clean. The owners were most helpful and friendly from when we arrived until we left. The breakfast was cooked to order and first class. I understand the present owners have had the place for about 18 months. The other 3 rooms were booked when we were there. I wish this couple every success and I am sure they will get many repeat bookings. They certainly will from us every time we come down from London to see our grandchildren.

A beautiful Guest House, with attention to detail. Located in a residential area, there is street parking and a voucher is issued by the owners, or you may be lucky and park on their drive. It is modern and airy; bedrooms range from homely and spacious to bright and trendy - all of which are comfortable and well equipped. There is a lovely comfy lounge with newspapers, and a pretty breakfast room which is again airy and tastefuly modern. It is beautifully decorated. Everything is of an excellent standard and quality - the toiletries, facilities, service and the breakfast (wow factor) - freshly cooked to order and all sourced locally and organically where possible; even the prepared fruit is exotic and freshly prepared, and the jams aren't the usual common ones served in most hotels. A lovely young couple own the guest house and we will certainly be back to visit again.

Just 5 minutes down the road are restaurants and shops; and if you arrive in the evening, there is a Tesco Express locally and a lovely wine bar - Rosie's, which is very reasonable, with good food and nice size portions, pus the wine is reasonably priced too.

The only downside for some would be the fact there are no twin beds, just doubles. But for us (and we are fussy), it was perfect!!
