“MOST COMFY BEDS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

stayed in this hotel for three nights in a family room, room was comfortable it had a double bed and a single and it spacious enough with the most comfortable beds in a hotel ive slept on, staff were very welcoming and polite and made our stay enjoyable, breakfast was good with a good variety and of reasonable quality also again service was very good by the staff in the restaurant at breakfast, had an evening dinner in the hotel which was ok but not much of a variety to choose from, make sure when you book you have a room which faces the hotel carpark because of less traffic noise at night, rooms are airconditioned in this hotel so that was great and the room temp could be set within your room from the thermostat on the wall, there is a pizza hut nextdoor to the hotel and was handy for a pizza also Tesco express is only a stones throw and was useful if you have kids with you,had a look at other hotels in Portsmouth but most were full so this premier in was available so read the reviews on it and yes its a good hotel to stay in.

If you are used to a quiet night then take your ear plugs when staying at this hotel. It is not the typical Premier Inn but another hotel they have taken over so no bath but a large spacious shower instead. The rooms are larger that in most Premier Inns which makes for a pleasant change.
Well positioned near the motorway and close to the port.

I visited this hotel last year and complained about the noise from traffic which kept us awake most of the night. I am pleased to say that we stayed again this year and were allocated a room on the top floor overlooking the car park. Great night sleep, no noise. Please see other review for more information on the hotel.

Hotel is in a convenient location, is quiet and has ample parking. Marina is very close and has a choice of places to eat and drink. Tourist attractions such as historic naval yard and beaulieu easy to get to. Hotel was clean and spacious and everything we needed for a short family break, would stay again.

Premier Inn is our hotel of choice for a one night stay but, I'm afraid, this wasn't up to their usual standard.

We had chosen it as it has air conditioning and Port Solent East doesn't.

There is a large car park (with a barrier), decent restaurant and Portsmouth's attraction are just a 10/15 minute drive away.

We arrived early but their welcome was good and the room was ready. The menu's were very familiar but the ambiance in the restaurant was better than some although still no horse radish for the steaks (does any PI stock horse radish?)

However it was the room that surprised us. The wash-hand basin is in the bedroom itself with the toilet and shower in a small bathroom, accessed by a very noisy sliding door. This gave rise to a couple of points. The handle of the door must be unhygienic as you need to use it before washing your hands after using the toilet and if you have a tendency to get up during the night, then the 'swish' of the sliding door will surely wake your partner.

The shower itself is of a decent size and includes both a seat and a small shelf for toiletries although the latter is high for those below average height. There is no grab handle. I don't know how you are expected to bathe small children without a bath. The heated towel rail didn't work, there is no towel rail next to the hand basin in the bedroom and the towels themselves had seen better days.

Personally I found the mattress very hard, something not usually a problem.

But there are plus sides as well. As already stated the hotel is well situated with a Tesco Superstore/Petro station nearby, the rooms are of a decent size, and the staff were happy and helpful. However, all in all, I shall try the Port Solent East, which is next door, next time I visit Portsmouth (as long as we are not in the middle of a heat wave), or their new Southsea hotel, (if we are) - although that is more expensive.

Finally, why 'Tulips in Amsterdam'? It turns out that this hotel was part of the Tulip chain purchased some 6 years ago. I am told that all these have been integrated into the PI chain by a bit of purple paint and welcome mats but I do wonder if all the ex Tulip hotels have the same kind of room layout.

Room Tip: If you have small children, ask if they have a room with a bath.

This hotel was great to stay at! Very friendly staff who had a giggle with us at breakfast. Food was excellent and the rooms clean and tidy with extra pillows, comfy beds and air con. Would definitely recommend and will be staying here again soon.

Usual premier inn room - but is next to a busy road (quite noisey). Quite a large room. The sink is located within the bedroom which is a little strange. No where to place your towel. Quite impractical I suppose they are not bothered if there is a leak onto the carpet. Shower with small seat, plenty of room for your products The building and room was very clean (well done to the cleaning staff). Breakfast good! Didn't eat at the restaurant it is a Thyme and the last one we tried in Bournemouth was awful! Well trained serving staff. Location by another Premier Inn with a beefeater, just walk across the road. 24 Hour Tesco in walking distance, pizza hut and a doughnut bar and coffee bar. Port solent Quay 5 mins drive. Plenty of places to eat. 10 Mins Portsmouth and 15+ Southsea. No problem parking.
There was a children's play room set up during are visit. Although we didn't have children with us, I heard the key to the room had been lost for two days so was out of use. There were a lot of children staying. So not ideal!
