Really enjoyed our long weekend at Fortitude Cottage. We stayed in the room at the top. The whole property was beautifully decorated, very modern and extremely clean and comfortable. We had our own terrace area and a spiral staircase onto the rooftop which had wonderful view of the Spinnaker Tower and harbour area. (See photos). Breakfast was beautifully coooked. Three pubs/restaurants within 2 minutes walk. Historic dockyard, Spinnaker Tower and Gunwharf shopping area all within 10-15 mins walk. Would definately book here again for a return visit. Highly recommended!

Fortitude Cottage B & B is truly a gem! Located in a lovely part of Old Portsmouth, the accommodation at Fortitude Cottage is absolutely top notch! The owners, Maggie and Mike, were lovely, and so was my room, and the dining room! My room and bathroom were very elegantly and tastefully designed, and the b & b generally has a sense of casual sophistication. I would heartily recommend Fortitude Cottage to anyone staying in Portsmouth!

Stayed for 2 nights at Fortitude Cottage and would recommend. Maggie and Mike were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome. We had the second floor room with great view of IOW ferry port so great for ferry spotting and with a good view of Spinnaker Tower (if you stick your head out the window). The room was immaculate.Small bathroom but perfectly functional. It was the perfect base in Old Portsmouth, very near to Gunwharf Quay. We had a lovely weekend and would happily return for a second visit.Great pubs nearby!

My wife and I stayed 4 nights in Portsmouth the first night was at Fortitude Cottage B&B and we then moved to the "sister" property Fortitude Holiday Apartment so we feel we can comment on both properties. Parking at both properties was excellent, the owners went out of their way to welcome us and make our stay enjoyable. Before writing this review I tried to think of something that I would like to see improved -- result -- absolutely nothing both properties ticked all the boxes for a perfect home away from home.

Located in the Old Portsmouth a block from the waterfront, Fortitude Cottage is a cozy retreat. Owners Maggie & Mike Hall are competent, congenial hosts who live adjacent the B&B. They serve a filling, cooked breakfast until 8:45am daily. We saw rooms on the 3rd & 4th floors (US), a bit of a walk-up, but the narrow halls and stairways give it old-world charm. Most impressive is that this place is spotless and extremely well-maintained making it worth the 95 Pounds per night, off-season. My wife and I visited twice in the past 3 months, totaling 5 nights.

In a neighborhood lacking greenery, and with ships passing nearby at all hours, it is still pleasant and located on a two-block, non-descript spit of land surrounded by water on 3 sides. There are pubs, a tea room and the famous battlements in the vicinity, but also two new construction sites and parking lots across the street. A grocery is just past the Cathedral, six blocks away

This B&B is a five-minute taxi ride from the harbor rail station, or 20 minutes on-foot, a circuitous route best first explored from the B&B. It is also about a 20 minute walk to the local mall, and a little farther to attractive downtown Portsmouth and to Southsea.

  • Liked — Very well-kept and clean, hearty, filling cooked breakfast, congenial hosts, near the waterway
  • Disliked — The beds water pressure, construction nearby and neighborhood
