I took a pleasant stroll along the seafront, on a chilly December morning, from the Spinnaker Tower to the D-Day Museum. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and the entrance fee is reasonable. The main feature is the wonderful Overlord Tapestry which is a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives for their country. It tells the whole story of events and planning which led to the D Day landings and the landings thereafter. There is a very good 10 minute film in a small auditorium, within the tapestry display part of the building, and it is worth viewing. I would suggest that to obtain the full benefit of the story unrolling in the tapestry you should take an audio guide which is a snip at only 50 pence. This puts the whole tapestry into perspective and explains a great deal you might otherwise overlook. There is also a very reasonably priced separate book which portrays each panel and gives a short overview of its making and is a perpetual souvenir. The remainder of the museum is small but well presented and informative with some excellent displays. The museum is a must see when visiting Portsmouth.
