“Second good stay....with baby.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

We've stayed here twice visiting family. The second time was with our 3 month old. The hotel is clean, modern and smart without being too formal. Staff are helpful and breakfast is good. The restaurant and communal areas are well designed and the pool a welcome extra. When travelling with our baby, the hotel provided us with a travel cot and bedding and placed us on a floor with other families so we didn't feel bad about disturbing other guests. The rooms are pretty soundproof so good choice for those with young babies. We've stayed in several hotels in Portsmouth - including some of the cheaper ones. This is more expensive, but worth it if you need comfort and somewhere a bit more than just a place to sleep. We'll be back.

Stayed at The Marriott for three nights B & B and found absolutely everthing to be very satisfactory. Comfortable well appointed rooms with all the amenities one would expect from this class of hotel. The staff were friendly and courteous and in particular the ladies on the reception desk were most helpful.

Travelling with two small children so we booked two rooms with an interconnecting door. On arrival this was not avail and we were allocated one room with two double beds above the bar. Starting with a stressful 50 minute check pocess, needless to say this has so far been a very uncomfortable stay with the noise from the bar and being crammed into one room (with all our luggage). I would say the hotel restaurant experience was good. I would'nt recommend this hotel for a family stay.

Dear guest,

thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that things did not work out for your stay. I investigated the issue and we found, if this is the correct booking, that your room was booked by a third party. When the reservation came to our hotel, there were no special requests made on the system. Unfortunately at check in there were no more interconnecting rooms available, since the hotel was fully booked and therefore we allocated a family room with 2 large beds. I understand from my team that we contacted one of regular guests and asked him to move to another room so we were able to offer you a connection room the next day. We believe we are a good hotel hotel for families as you can see in the other feedback and hopefully you will give us another chance. Please book directly with the hotel and we will ook after you,

yours sincerely, BJ Schreuder, General Manager

As always you can't go wrong with a Marriott Hotel. From the first greating to the very personal and warm service, this Hotel isa just great. Location is not the best between Motorway and main streets, but you are very good located. Only 5 Min. to the Gunwarf Outlet Center which offers you a bunch of High street label shops, very nice restaurants etc. Rooms in the Hotel are clean and well maintained, and teh breakfast buffet is huge and well assorted. You can on ly eat until 10:00 which is not long enough. Even the indoor pool is clean and nice to use after a though day of shopping. Employees are very helpful and make everything that you feel comfortable. Thereis no Excecutive Lounge which is a pitty espescially if it's a rainy day :-) like we had two of them. Higly recommended I would go back again.

We have stayed at many Marriott Hotels in the past and they all seem the have the same feeling and atmosphere to them, some better than others however. This particular hotel was slightly different due to the open plan on the ground floor and some bed rooms have the view of this, resulting in no fresh air from the outside which makes those rooms rather claustrophobic. As we only stayed here for two nights we weren't too bothered but if it had been any longer, it would have been quite hard to stand it, this is one of my bad points about this hotel. However, there are good points, for example it has the facility of a swimming pool and leisure center and just a short drive to the center of Portsmouth. It's location is great if you are on a business trip, however if it was for a holiday this probably wouldn't be the hotel for you!
Breakfast was okay but very busy, there was a short wait to be seated both mornings.
The bed rooms have an en-suite bathroom fitted with an extractor fan and air conditioning, and a large flat screen television, therefore if you like watching television from larger screens then this is an advantage for you.
The beds are fairly comfortable with enough pillows to fill a lorry but they give you a good nights sleep if you are not woken up from noises coming from downstairs or the corridors as the sound proofing isn't great.
Probably wouldn't stay again as we probably won't need to.

Overall, I have rated this hotel 3 out of 5 due to the volume levels from the ground floor being rather loud, the lack of fresh air

Room Tip: Avoid any rooms with an inside view if you like fresh air or feel claustrophobic!

First impressions count. Our first impression was of intolerable noise everywhere on the ground floor. This was not piped music: it came from the leisure centre. We wondered about the effect on the ears of the staff, and then about the sanity of the architect who could allow so much noise to permeate the place. Had it not been wet and windy, we could have retreated to an outdoor smoking area, which, ironically, had a notice asking guests to not make a noise. The middle of the day on Saturday was probably the worst time, and waiting for our room to be ready was painful. But one member of staff was sympathetic to our plight and helpful.

This is a clone hotel: our room was fine, with a comfortable bed and well provided with pillows – and quiet. Forget imaginative personal touches.

We had a room service lunch which came quickly and was fine. Breakfast was a very ordinary buffet. The queues might have been shorter if tables were cleared and relaid more quickly.

Dear guest,

thank you for your feedback and unfortunately due to the open plan of our lobby, the pool area can cause some noise from children and families having fun. We ask our leisure associates and we have put notices on wall from the pool reminding our customers that noise travels quickly and to keep noise levels down. We ask families not to use the pool with children after 19.00 to make sure that others can enjoy cocktails and dinners. Our breakfast buffet normally scores very high scores in our Guest Satisfaction survey's. Please let me know what improvements you would like to see. Thank you for your feedback on the breakfast service, the hotel was full and we then cater for over 350 guests and can sometimes cause delay.

Everything positive about this hotel. They need to add a business center or free wifi. The rooms were great.
