“Great Value For Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We needed somewhere to stay in this area but we had left it late to book and as it was the bank holiday most places were already fully booked, however The Swan Hotel had a vacancy. I'm used to staying in top class hotels and having read some of the reviews on Tripadvisor we seriously thought twice about booking but in the end decided to give it a try and I'm really glad that we did. First good point was the price, £55.00 per room per night for 2 people with a full cooked breakfast. We had a standard twim room which was pretty basic but had tea/coffee making facilities, a hair dryer, flat screen TV with plenty of channels. The bedding was clean and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was roomy and spotlessly clean. This is an old building which gives it loads of charm but not too brilliant soundproofing inside, this was't a problem though. We had a look inside an executive room as we left and it was really nice, very oldy-worldy with a four poster bed.

The hotel is in a pleasant village/country town in the cotswolds, it's on a quiet road so there's not much traffic noise. It has a nice bar and a pleasant restaurant. The restaurant is very contemporarily furnished and decorated within this nice old building and it really is a pleasant place to eat. Breakfast is served here and included in the room price we had fruit juice, tea/coffee, full english breakfast and loads of toast and marmalade, great start to the day.

This is an old country hotel and may not suit those who's idea of comfort a Travel Lodge with a Harvester next door but I loved it.

Good value for money
Nice breakfast
Nice little town
Friendly helpfull staff
Clean & comfortable
Dog friendly

Room Tip: I'd try the executive room

We had booked an executive double, in March, for a friend's wedding in July. We arrived to be told we didn't have the executive double we booked (in March) as the hotel was full! We could have said we weren't staying but we knew the town was booked up for the wedding so didn't fancy our chances.mWe were assured we wouldn't pay the executive double price.....I should say so!!!

Anyway we were led to our room which felt like it was in the attic to discover we were in fact sharing a bathroom with the room next door (quite different from the executive double we booked in march).

The bedroom was tired. There was no fan which meant we 'slept' with the fire exit door open all night. I'm sure the executive double room didn't suffer by comparison!!!

Plus side- the staff were very nice. Food was ok but unremarkable. I wouldn't stay again because I don't anticipate visiting the town again but if you go, be prepared not to get what you actually book, however far in advance. It had never happened to me before so I was taken aback! Perhaps I was just naive. I shall call ahead in future.....

Room Tip: Ring ahead before you arrive to check you will be staying in the room you actually reserved.

Nice simple hotel, clean and friendly, lovely large room (2) a bit noisey with the kitchen fans, but really a pleasant room.

Good food and a lovely relaxed atmosphere, the bar was very quaint, breakfast was simple but perfectly adequate.

a bidget hotel providing a decent quality and standard, you cant beat it for value for money.

Stayed here for one night walking the Cotswold Way and was deeply unimpressed. Nice old building and central but room poor with a worn out bed and lumpy pillow, no table or light at one side. Bathroom pokey and the shower had no thermostat so getting scalded was a real risk. Food overcooked- fish and chips hard and kept hot possibly for a few months. Service non-existent especially breakfast where the waiter seemed to be asleep and unable to notice lack of milk, dirty tables and customer needs. We were glad to leave.

After walking all day on the Cotswold Way we arrived and after some confusion were shown to our room. The hotel is in need of a make-over and general cleaning (stains on the hall way carpet) but the location was good. About 20 minutes after we were somewhat settled in our room a knock came on the door asking if we had received confirmation about our booking. Luckily I had the email saved so it was easy to locate. It appears that when I made the booking for 2 rooms (we were walking with friends) back in October 2012 the Manager was leaving that day on not the best of terms. The reservations did not get recorded so we did not actually have rooms for the night. The new Manager, David went out of his way to find us accommodations for the night and even drove us to the new hotel which was some distance away. A big thanks to him :-)

We were a group of adults and one child walking part of the Cotswold Way. After reading some of the past reviews my expectations were quite low. However everything turned out to be absolutely brilliant - clean and spacious rooms with comfy beds, nice and baths as well as showers, friendly and helpful staff, a cosy character pub and excellent food at both dinner and breakfast. Would definately stay again. The location is also great right in the centre of town.

This dinner was for WRFC. Unfortunately the first course of fish cakes, not that fishy at all, could have been dough balls? Second course -Chicken with Cranberry and Brie, which most of our table had chosen, was so over-cooked that there was no Cranberry and Brie remaining and the chicken ended up dry as a bone! The Salmon course was also completely over-cooked. The desserts and cheese were good. The company was brilliant, the ambience and service was good as usual, but our evening was sadly let down by the food. We will think twice about having a meal there again.

Room Tip: We did not stay just ate
