“Good place to stay and eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We have stayed here a couple of times already with the kids. The rooms are pretty basic, but tidy. The real bonus comes with the food that is served there. Great meals, all from local produce. Very friendly staff and attentive to children. We'll definitely be back...

We stayed here as part of a Birthday weekend for my father in law (80). We stayed in a large double room with our two and a half year old. My husband's brother and his wife had a family room and their two children slept in an adjoining room.

The staff were super friendly and made a point of always remembering my daughter's name and talking to her. They have a separate room downstairs that has toys and sofas in and at tea time, they bring a table and chairs in there and allow toddlers to eat at the table from a child's menu. The food was very good and not junk. The room means you can relax a bit and they happily served us a glass of wine and coffee in there whilst our daughter ate. Every breakfast, the table was laid with a little place for our daughter with colourful, plastic cutlery and bowl/plate. A very nice touch.

The room was basic but clean and the bed was comfy They had put a very nice little bed in the corner for our little one. They had just put a sheet over it so would reccomend bringing a child duvet as we did. The baby monitor worked from our hotel room to the restaurant too.

The bathroom was clean but a bit shabby and very small but it did none really bother us as we were there to eat and go out in the day and not for a luxury hotel weekend!

I would definitely return there. We ate both nights in the main restaurant and the food was excellent albeit a little over generous on the servings in my opinion.

when I checked in the waitress/ receptionist had to fumble around ot fing me a key for the front door - apologiseing that they had just changed locks. The key fob was no 18 my room numer was 17 - not very helpful.

Room was ok - not worth the money however especially as the wholly inadequate cream roman blind was faulty and would not go up or down so was worken by the day light the following morning at 5am. Privacy non existent and room directly faced another wing.

Breakfast was good - but spolt by my poor nights sleep.

I somehow think some of these reviewers went to a different hotel to me. I stayed here with my hubby for 2 nights on 23rd and 24th June, whilst attending a madnes concert at nearby westbirton arboretum. from the moment we got there we were treated to excellent customer service with staff that were so friendly, welcoming and eager to please. Perhaps that was because we actually got to know them. Our bedroom was lovely with a huge comfortable bed. The bathroom was a bit small and older looking but the shower was exceedingly powerful and we had no complaints. We dined in the restaurant on the saturday evening and had a fabulous meal, we were actually encouraged by the sign that tells you they source food within a 30 mile radius, it is something I think they should promote and the quality of the food showed this. Breakfast was the best my husband has ever had in a hotel, and we have stayed in tons of hotels. everything was cooked fresh and I feel sorry if others didn't experience the wonderful fare that we enjoyed. All in all this was a wonderful find and we would definitely recommend it to others. Having stayed in the US many times, where the customer service is second to none, we are frequently disappointed in Britain but The customer service at the priory was perhaps some of the best we have experienced in Britain, on a par with much more expensive places, and other British hostelries could learn a lot.

This should have been an ideal venue for a trip to Highgrove as it is close to Tetbury with plenty of parking. On arrival there seemed to be some confusion about our booking - the length of stay and type of room. However we were given a twin bedded room which was fine and we unpacked. We then found there was no hot water! We declined the suggestion that we go elsewhere but with hindsight wished we had as in the morning we found there was no cold water in the shower either! It took a very long time for the lavatory cistern to fill so there were obviously significant problems with the plumbing! Our breakfast was perfectly acceptable and we spent the morning in Tetbury returning at !pm to be asked when we would vacate our room! We produced our booking confirmation showing we had booked for 2 nights and went to Highgrove. On returning at 6pm our beds were still not made and there was still no hot water. Our breakfast next morning was revolting my husband's bacon tasted bad and I was given tepid lumps of potato and cold soggy cabbage which was supposed to be bubble and squeak. Needless to say we will not be repeating an experience which was like an episode from
Fawlty Towers. Highgrove was brilliant.

On a spur of the moment trip organised with friends we booked a stay at the Priory Inn just for the night and it was overall a great experience. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. On your stay be sure to try out the restaurant which has a fantastic feel about it and great food, especially the breakfast! They advertise to use only products sourced within 30miles, and you can tell by the fresh food that is served.

Unfortunately driving up to the hotel in itself was a disappointment, 4 big board’s outside the hotel, one advertising for staff, another the 30 mile food radius, not very appealing. The photo of the courtyard seating area is actually at the front of the hotel on the main road into Tetbury, rather noisy. No one at reception which apart from one big painting was rather lacking an any ambiance, although the girl who did come after we rang the bell was very pleasant

The bedroom was supposed to be stylish, affraid not. The bathroom was very small and the bath had to be rinsed out before use. Only good point was that the bath towels were very large and the bedding was crisp.

The Priory prides themselves on sourcing locally produced food which is freshly cooked. At breakfast I asked for my bacon to be crispy, it was cremated; the only thing freshly cooked was the eggs and tomato. The juices were on a table in uncovered jugs and also warm. There was no yogurt or muffins and the fresh fruit when replenished was a couple of apples and pears. We were offered toast when our breakfast was brought. The butter was almost melted (yes it was a hot morning, but it had been on another table beforehand along with small uncovered pots of marmalade and jam). During breakfast the waitress cleaned other tables by wiping any crumbs etc. straight onto the floor and the odd job man came thru with his paint and dragging his dust sheet with him.

Overall we were very disappointed with the hotel, it was soulless and in general need of a clean.
We ate dinner at a nearby hotel The Ormond, lovely meal and very nice hotel, I wish we had stayed here. The Priory have spent a lot of time creating marketing material which is very appealing, but fails to deliver.
