Stayed here on business. THe hotel is being refurbished and would recommend asking for a room that has been done. The room was large and comfortable, bathroom was very clinical but functional. The windows all have wooden blinds to cover them which means the room is never dark with light straeming in from outside. The food was very good value with a surprising menu mainly consisting of Thai food, although they also do British as well. The service was friendly and efficient.
My one complaint was the noise. I stayed midweek so no night club but there is a taxi firm next door and the railway station car park near. There was constant door slamming until after midnight and as the room doesn't have air conditioning you need the windows open when it is warm. To make matters worse at 6 am the dustbins are emptied, including the empties from the bar. Did spoil a reasonably good nights sleep. This is more a pub/restaurant which has bedrooms than a hotel, the facilities are basic, the room has small TV and tea/coffee but not much else Still at £69 per night B&B what more could you expect.

Worth a visit for a night or two but not much more. I am sure there are better quality hotels in the area but this is good value.

Room and bathroom spacious, new and spotlessly clean. Staff welcoming. I was a little surprised to pay on arrival as this is not the norm in most hotels that I stay at - perhaps they have had problems. Full English breakfast very good.

There was one major disappointment - noise from the surrounding night clubs as clients sought taxis from the nearby taxi ranks, and what sounded like a chainsaw running from midnight til about 3 in the morning. I came home to sleep! Probably a little better during the week - but I would not visit again at a weekend for this reason only.

  • Liked — cleanliness, value for money, breakfast
  • Disliked — noise from the locality

The hotel is very convieniently located has excellent Thai and English Food, the rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff is highly courteous and strongly believe in going out of their way to make your stay memorable. Service with a smile in the true sense of the word was experienced here. I don't know whether I would get to stay at the hotel again as I was on a business visit but whenever I am in the vicinity I will make sure I dine at their restaurant and enjoy the lovely food. At their prices the experience at the hotel is a steal and I strongly recommend anyone to go stay there or atleast try their restaurant food. Thanks.

I was a little worried about what to expect after reading previous reviews but having travelled extensively, both in the UK and throughout the world, I have to say I really enjoyed my visit. It's not the hotel for you if your preference is major chain hotels and bland, indifferent service. However, if you like the older style hotel with character and an enthusiastic staff - not to mention the fantastic food (thai) - you won't be disappointed. The rooms were a little on the shabby side but that's to be expected during the renovation phase and for £65 B&B (twin) this was not an issue. The rooms were clean and everything worked in the bathroom - great shower, by the way. I'm planning another trip to this area the same time next year and this will be top of my list for value, terrific cuisine and great service! Well done to all.

  • Liked — Food, ambience, very attentive staff
  • Disliked — Not enough lights in the bedroom

We liked the look of the Imperial at Stroud on the website photograph because it looked very oldy worldy. When we arrived we were greeted by our name and although we could see that the hotel was undergoing some serious refurbishment this didn't cause any inconvenience at all. The room was spacious and clean and the staff were very polite and friendly.
Before going to bed we sat in the lounge bar area and had a drink from the bar where they had a variety of cask ales as well as bottled beers and largers. We sat in two very comfortable padded leather chairs.
In the morning we were served a very good full English breakfast and again the young lady who served us was very polite and cheerful.
All in all it was a very pleasant overnight stay and I would have no hesitation in staying there again.
