“Just so so.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

We shared 3 tapas- goat cheese on bread, aubergine au gratin and mushroom crepes. The crepe was cold and the aubergine bitter. The goat cheese on bread was good. I had the lamb shank which was good, not great and my husband had the pork hock which he enjoyed. The side veggies were good, nothing special. I had the sticky toffee pudding which was nice while he had the bread and butter pudding which he thought was wonderful. There was one server who handled all of the tables efficiently. The ambiance is nice and the noise level acceptable.

“Don't have the tapas”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

We ordered some tapas and it seriously lacked flavour. The couple sat next to us obviously felt the same. They ordered a starter and ended up with part of the tapas as their starter. The starter turned up when they'd finished their meal. The food didn't appear to be seasoned. We ordered chicken and green pepper kebabs - the chicken might as well have been boiled, it lacked colour so much, and the pepper was the same - no sign of any herbs, spices or that they'd been roasted. The food didn't taste horrible, it just didn't taste of much! I had the bread and butter pudding afterwards because I thought the homely food might be better. It tasted wonderful but as I ate more, a sea of butter appeared at the bottom of the dish and I had to pour the butter off my spoon before taking mouthfuls. No wonder it tasted so good! But all I could see was grease. The red wine was nice though.

“Outside Catering from JK's St Michaels restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

On Saturday 25th August we had a 21st Birthday party for the Tall Person's Club GB & Ireland at Painswick Town Hall, with the catering done by next door Jean and her team of St Michaels.
The food was absolutely out of this world, catering for meat eaters/veggies and all dietary requirements that we asked for. The team were on hand for absolutely everything, their was a really good choice and we all had at least two visits for a refill on our plates.
I would definitely recommend that anyone wishing to host an event that you consider JK's for your bash.
I have eaten in the restaurant as well, and this was brilliant, as they cater for everything you ask for re dietary requirements. Portion sizes are great and there is always a varied menu...Can't wait to visit again.
Louise Ross-Foden Director for the Tall Person's Club and on behalf of all 60+ guests on the night of the party, who commented that the food was to die for. Well done.

“What a gem!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We stumbled across this lovely restaurant quite by chance as we were seeking refuge from a torrential downpour-what a find!! The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We had the fish and chips(excellent chips and the other table were also oohing and ahhing over them as well!) and the chicken pie. Oh my! The chicken was the the most tender chicken I have ever eaten -sublime!! The veg were all fresh and everything was prepared fresh on the spot. The restaurant has a lovely feel, friendly staff, a good menu and a great chef. This little gem is well worth a visit -you will not be disappointed. Well worth a visit!!

“Outstanding tapas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

A group of us had a selection of tapas on Suday lunchtime. Most other dinners in this small restaurant had the buffet roast. The tapas were excellent. Hot, good flavours, reasonable quantities. Very friendly and helpfull staff. A little gem of a place. Booking any restaurant in Painswick advisable as town busy with tourists and wedding groups
