To be fair, this hotel has new owner who hope to renovate all the hotels bedrooms over the next few months but even with this in mind Room 7 will be suitable to rent out as a double.
The room looks out over the kitchen's extractor fan and stinks to gagging proportions of stale fat. At dinner that evening I realised that the smell had attached itself to our hair and clothes. After breakfast the following day the smell was even more intense.
Number 7 is rented as a double room. There is not enough room though for the room to hold a small double bed, 2 people and 2 suitcases. It should only be a single room. There was not enough room for a bedside table and light on both sides of the bed.
The room is delapidagted and unclean. The head board on the bed was missing leaving bare plaster and sharp brackets, which could cause injury if you leaned back in bed. There were also patches of bare plaster, unpainted patches, and huge cracks and holes in the paster and the ceiling. There is hideous green floral carpet, not unlike your nana might have had in her spare bedroom 20 years ago. Mismatched dusty furniture adds to the feeling that this is a room in a down market b and b rather than expensive hotel room.
With stained mugs, grubby kettle, cob webs and dust, cleanliness is also an issue here.
While this room is awaiting decorating first aid, it's outrageous that the owners are renting it out at £80 a night. While other rooms may be brought up to scratch in coming months I doubt that room 7 will ever be fit for purpose.
Not room 7- it overlooks the kitchen fan and smells of grease.
