The friendly welcome from Viv & Stephen, with tea/coffee, in the breakfast room (the only common area) allows you to gasp at their fabulous view, which is exactly as in the picture on their website. There are no other buildings in view, only the large pool with trees lining its banks, and the gorgeous waterlilies.
The owners know their property and its wildlife intimately, and have lovingly prepared maps and almost tree-by-tree descriptions of the walk around their 32 acres, half of it water. They encourage guests to fish and birdwatch. Viv has a superb photographic eye - do not miss her photoframe near the entrance.
The 4 bedrooms, all with views, are clean, comfortable (except for flabby pillows) and thoughtfully provided with fluffy towels, tissues, even cotton buds. Each has a small fridge (empty, for your full use) plus kettle/tea/coffee/biscuits and own (somewhat cramped) shower-room. The full English breakfast, available between 8-9am, includes a fresh egg collected daily on their own grounds, and is good quality (except for the cerealy sausages). Good coffee, cereals, both fresh & tinned fruits, toast and jams, even hot milk should you request it – you are actually encouraged to make special requests.
The accommodation is almost incidental compared to the privilege of staying in this glorious, tranquil, unique location. This B&B is already fully booked for the year, mainly with returning guests, who then book for next year as they leave, so the following year is pretty fully booked too - hardly any weekends available even now.
Back in February we had trouble getting 3 bedrooms for the minimum 2 nights (only 2 dates were available between May and September - eventually we reduced to 2 bedrooms and bagged a cancellation several weeks later - and none of them weekends) and we made sure to book for next year before our reluctant departure.
