“Outstanding Value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2011

We had booked two different B & Bs in the area for the two nights we we're staying, this was the cheap option. However the room, which was described as the smaller of the two available was just excellent. Firstly it isn't small, it was almost a suite with masses of storgage cupboards and a fantastic bathroom complete with a large bath (with shower option). Lots and lots of nice touches including DVD player with access to a good sellection of movies. Wonderful host who couldn't do enough for us and to polish it off, a breakfast both well cook and presented. All this for just £65 a night!

Best B & B I have even stayed in.

We had a wonderful time at the Old Bear. The room was beautiful, the breakfast was absolutely delicious and Ann Marie and Alan were the perfect hosts - providing us with great insight in to the local area, but never intruding too much. They even kindly offered to drive us to the pub and back on our last night, so we could enjoy a few drinks. We would definitely recommend staying here, to anyone visiting the Cotswolds.

Anne Marie and Allan have really got it right here. From the very warm welcome to the much appreciated willingness to share their local knowledge and enthusiasm for the area. The rooms are more like suites and the quality of the furnishings and facilities surpass those at most five star hotels! Attention to detail and the quality of the little extras means that guests feel pampered and special. Breakfast was perfectly prepared and presented in a lovely setting.
Anne-Marie has set her standards at a very high level and achieves that level magnificently. We can't wait for our next visit.

This B&B is an absolute gem in the heart of the Cotswolds. There are only two rooms, in a huge house that used to be a Coaching Inn and is now a beautiful antique shop.

The rooms are huge, with enormous beds. Everything is done to perfection and the highest standard. Because it is an antique shop, the furniture in the rooms is antique (including some for sale!). Each room has a en-suite bathroom which is bigger than most rooms I've stayed in in England. The baths are huge, and everything was refurbished a couple of years ago to a very high standard.

Anne-Marie is an unassuming, kind and attentive host. The breakfast was to die for: frest fruit, three kinds of cereal, local yoghurt, fresh orange juice, homemade bread, and, of course, a full English breakfast with eggs however you like, sausage, bacon, mushroom, tomato - the works! And fresh pastries to finish. There is fresh milk, cookies, cafetiere coffee and tea in the rooms as well.

All in all - could not ask for a better B&B. There is nothing that could be faulted. It is also incredible value - £85, including breakfast, wireless internet and paper of your choice. In most B&Bs this room would be a "suite" at >£150 a night, and it would be nowhere near as good. If she doubled the price, it will still be worth it for the experience.

I could not recommend this B&B more highly. The reason that it is unknown is because Anne-Marie does not advertise it particularly - I get the impresion it is a hobby. We were able to get a room on Saturday night on Valentine's weekend the day before.

Close by are two great pubs and restaurant, The Bathurst Arms is just down the road (won "Inn of the Year") and for amazing food, The Village Pub, Barnsley is 10 minutes drive away. The Potager Restaurant in Barnsley is also suppsed to be excellent.

Nothing is too much trouble. Anne-Marie smooths the way with her warm, friendly manner in this most excellent of B&Bs.

But to call the Old Bear a B&B risks prosecution under the Trades Description Act. On arrival you become an integral part of this stylish family home that lives cheek by jowl with a thriving antiques business. The two guest rooms are large, beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and remain respectfully private.

Downstairs, Anne-Marie serves a breakfast of simple quality. Home made bread, home made muesli, jams, croissant, eggs, bacon - and great coffee.

With heavy hearts, we left - discretely. Hopefully no one saw us. We would like to keep this place a secret.

Ann Marie and Alan are wonderful hosts who genuinely care about their guests and do everything possible to make your stay a real treat. The room was huge, beautifully decorated and with a spotless en suite. The breakfast was delicious - home made bread, jams and museli, quality sausages etc in the English breakfast and the most delicious oven roasted home grown cherry tomatoes. Papers are complimentary, advice on walks, restaurants, days out etc freely and happily given. We saw the other good reviews here and they have all turned out to be absolutely true. Treat yourself, we're glad we did!

Great hosts who run their antiques business from this converted pub. Huge rooms with all the luxuries with Georgian antiques. Immaculate bathrooms and amazing breakfasts with home made bread, muesli and full English. The hosts are very helpful in reccomending places to visit and restaurants.
