I was treated to an evening here earlier in the month by my husband and after a truly wonderful evening and experience thought I must share this little gem with the world wide web!
Lumiere is an intimate restaurant that welcomes you in and instantly puts you at ease. Helen who runs the front of house was charming and even though the place was full of happy diners, she acknowleged us straight away and showed us to our table. After ordering some drinks we were left to browse the menu. We had a choice of either a traditional 2 or 3 course menu or the chefs tasting menu, 7 courses that changes periodically. We both went for the tasting menu as it sounded very interesing and we were not disappointed. Chef Jon Howe combines his wonderful cooking skills with his imagination and the result is a gastronomic adventure that started with a wild mushroom risotto, followed by some amazing scallops with the smoothest butternut puree I have ever tasted! Along the way we also had some devine pigeon and course after course never failed to amaze and tantalise the taste buds. Also you must try Jons parsnip milk as a prelude to the desert, it was both strange yet delightful, a real sensory treat!
The chef has a real talent for creating mini works of art on each plate that was served, the standard of each plate that came out was consistently high with such attention to detail really just made the whole experience so enjoyable.
I can't recommened this place highly enough, we can't wait to go back one day, hopefully soon! And we would certainly want to go for the tasting menu again as Jon is such a creative and talented chef I imagine each visit would be a unique experince and I look forward to seeing and tasting his future creations!
