“Nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

Nice place . Service was good. We thought Monday night was buffet night, as did some other people. The food was authentic.

“Great food.. tired setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

The food is extremely authentic. I have travelled India several times and this place is as close to the real thing as you will get in Cheltenham. Very unique dishes, mostly from the southern regions. I can't fault the food, but the restaurant is very tired. not overly inviting and the service is sometimes non existent. They offer delivery, which I think is the best option. If you want a taste of the real India - give it a go

“Used to be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

I used to really like Namaste, and its menu has one of the best veggie selections in Cheltenham, with loads of South Indian dishes. Unfortunately, on recent visits I've found all the sauces to be much of a muchness - lots of tomato and onions, and not much else - and the dishes which used to be special are now just so-so. I probably won't be going back - although the menu still sounds good, I'd rather have boring dishes cooked excellently than interesting dishes cooked poorly.

“Grubby, made me want to leave. Inattentive service.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

The side plates had grease marks and fingerprints on them, the fork had lumps of somebody else's meal encrusted to it from who knows when. The 'pickle tray' was covered is some kind of unidentifiable grease/gunk on the central 'hub'. The table-cloth was stained in several places. The items in the pickle tray were patently 'sieved out' of somebody else's left overs. The meat Mixed Grill consisted entirely of cuts that was yesterdays (or earlier) leftovers - you know, it just patently tastes like it, an is dry and cold inside.
The serving staff just didn't want to be there and were actually annoyed with me asking a question "why is exactly the same description used for two dishes with different names" (they had in fact made a mistake printing the menu).
It all set the scene for me actually feeling quite uncomfortable and ill-at-ease overall throughout and just wanted to leave.
It's a shame, because the chefs are good and the actual food is nice, although no better than some adjacent Indian restaurants in Cheltenham, some literally 1 street/50 yards away.
Cheltenham is a place with MANY Indian restaurants so competition is fierce, however, every other restaurant I frequent can make sure everything is clean/hygienic.
Unless you don't mind leftovers served on grubby tables with grubby cutlery with inattentive staff, then go to ANY other adjacent Indian just around the corner.
It isn't a coincidence this place is now half empty every time I walk past. Avoid unless the other 'first-choices' are all full up, which is exactly why we ended up there!
