“Disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

We went in January when it was bound to be quiet but the pre-odered flowers were not in the room (or available). The restaurant was closed (eat in bar area) so we had to ask for a refund on oor room rate for the included dinner and the room was properly clean. The net curtains were filthy. The staff did their best including paying for the taxi to take us in to Cheltenham to an excellent restaurant recommended by them but, although the position was great and the room fine it was such a disappointment.

Room Tip: We chose an Exec room and were glad that we did. It was fine but we wouldn't have wanted smalle...

We were lucky enough to be able to stay for 5 days at this hotel. We had an upgraded room which was lovely with everything supplied you could want including dressing gowns, slippers, all toiletries even a disposable toothbrush complete with toothpaste. It was ideally situated for going into Cheltenham for the shops etc with a service bus just a few steps away which ran every ten minutes. Super for people with a free bus pass. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful or friendly and we had cleaners every day including Christmas day. .

Room Tip: We asked for an upgraded room and was definitely not dissapointed

I cant speak highly enough of this hotel. Our stay was special from start to finish and nothing was too much trouble for the superb staff there. We received a great treatment from the minute we stepped in the hotel to the minute we left. The room was very clean, I had the chance to meet Franciso and Lulu who work in housekeeping, both were extremelly professional and willing to help. Also Matt who works behind the bar, Hannah & Samantha from reception, Lyn from breakfast, and all the restaurant staff, They all are excellent ambassadors for the hotel, a place that i will definetelly be back to.

My wife, 21 year old daughter and I spent three nights here over Christmas. I am a 57 year old wheelchair user and the facilities at this and at other Thistle hotels at which I have staid are excellent for those with disabilities. I have not been to any other hotel group where the needs of those with impaired mobility are so well dealt with. For example as soon as I arrived the receptionist worked out a personal emergency evacuation plan for me. Accessibility is first class throughout the hotel. The disabled room was very well thought out and the bathroom with wheel in wet room type shower was spacious and well appointed. The Christmas package represented excellent value for money. On Christmas Day my parents who are in their late 80s and who live locally joined us for Christmas lunch. Our lunch party had a wide range of special needs, comprising of two wheelchair users, someone who is substantially deaf and someone who has to follow a special diet. Our needs were catered for with exemplary courtesy and efficiency. The staff at this hotel are a massive strong point. Without exception we found them to be dedicated, hard working and professional. They have a genuine customer service ethic and high morale which suggests to me that the management of the hotel must be excellent in terms of motivation and leadership. We will definitely stay in this and other Thistle hotels in future.

Room Tip: If you are disabled be sure to book one of the adapted rooms. I rang ahead to discuss my precise nee...

We've just returned from a two night package break. The hotel is easy to find with good access to lovely countryside destinations. We were warmly welcomed and throughout our stay the staff were friendly (genuinely so!), helpful and would check on us during our meals. Our room was clean and large with a king sized bed. You do have to pay a small amount for parking.
The package deal was brilliant for the price! We had welcome cakes/minced pies and chocolate bars with tea on arrival. Bucks Fizz, 3 course meal and entertainment on 24th, mulled wine, tea cakes/minced pies again on the 25th with probably the best buffet full English (and more) brekkie I think I've had in a hotel! The Christmas lunch was good (not outstanding but fresh and tasty!) and a lovely fresh buffet later!! Free mulled wine kept me going! Again there was evening entrainment (we don't usually join in but we did and it was fun!)... Boxing Day brekkie again delicious and then we left. It was a really good value, enjoyable stay with staff who made our Christmas that bit extra! They left us chocs, an orange and quiz on our door handle and provided board games for those in the hotel mid pm to keep us amused! We would recommend this hotel as a break anyway but the Christmas package is a great way to enjoy Christmas without breaking the bank!

Recently stayed here overnight for a girls weekend away. Was pleasantly surprised as I had not heard great reviews. Service was fantastic, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and tidy and had everything you needed. The breakfast was excellent and we were not rushed at all like in some places. Even after 'cut off time' we were told we were welcome to stay and chat and offered more tea and coffee! Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone.

This was something I hadn't expected with a chain hotel such as this in 2012. On the coldest night of the year, the cold was dropping off the window of our ground floor room and we had to draw the curtains and put the chairs against it to protect ourselves from the cold air, really unpleasant. The heating system worked fine thankfully so it was turned up! I was amazed to see the next day that some of the windows had secondary glazing. We did ask reception if this was in the process of being done in all rooms, but it wasn't answered, we were just offered extra heaters. In the morning it was dripping with condensation. So if you are going in the winter, specify a room with secondary glazing. The breakfast was very mediocre, the continental in particular didn't appear very fresh. The hot breakfast was ok if that dish had just been refreshed, otherwise it wasn't very warm or appealing. Very disappointing really. On the bright side, good size room, the staff were very friendly and helpful, pool excellent and very warm. I particularly liked the sauna as part of the changing room, therefore single sex. Good location only 10 minutes drive to the town and not as noisy as you might expect being close to the road.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with secondary glazing especially if you go in the winter.
