“Fantastic cottage, with loads of lovely touches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

I would highly recommend Candlemas Cottage if you're looking for somewhere in the Cotswolds to stay. The cottage, though small, is fantastically well furnished and the space is extremely well utilised. The decor is also great with lots of quirky touches that really make it feel like home. The shower is fantastic as well, something that self catering holidays are often let down by.

The location, right in the heart of Bourton on the Water is great for convenience and not at all noisy.

I will definitely be re-visiting in the future.

What a lovely cottage... we've been 3 times and it feels like home. It is cosy in the evening and still feels bright and clean during the day. The location is superb, right in the centre next to restaurants and shops. The lady has always been really helpful for the booking and made sure we had everything we needed for our little one. Great place to stay and explore the Cotswolds.

“Fantastic cottage in a fantastic location”

This is a real traditional old Cotswold stone cottage. Inside it is cosy, quiet, delightful and gorgeous, set on 3 floors with a small patio garden. You can hardly believe bustling Bourton is on your doorstep. Literally a few steps away is the Mulberries Tea Rooms (with wifi for customers) and round the corner the Croft overlooking the Windrush - both serve the most delicious full English & vegetarian breakfast's. The cottage is in the most perfect location ever, the bed extremely comfortable, all amenities included linen, towels, washing machine etc. I normally wake up in the night but here I slept right through. I didn't want to leave neither did my partner, we felt at home. It’s worth mentioning that there is no direct parking at the property but I was able to park every time no problem in the road opposite where upon I could see my car from the front door and bedroom window (A little neurotic about my car I know) If you walk around Bourton you will see that there are actually lots of places to park anyway. I would not hesitate to recommend Candlemas Cottage – A beautiful cottage in a perfect location.

“Great cottage in centre of village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We had high expectations of this cottage from its description and location, we were not disappointed. The cottage was very clean, well decorated and comfortably furnished for four people (though it can accommodate six). It is compact (I managed to bump my head a couple of times on the bathroom door) but adequate for four adults.
Weather permitting we managed to have some of our breakfasts and lunches out on the small terrace, which gets partial sun till about 3pm. There is about a three foot drop from one side of the terrace which means that youngsters would need to be supervised out there.
Step out of the front door and you are right in the centre of Bourton on the water. Busy during the day but quieter when the day trippers have left. I found it a nice change not to drive anywhere, great if you want to sample the local pubs and restaurants. The slight downside is that there can be noise from morning deliveries, however we did not find this intrusive.
We did find parking tricky but were warned in advance. We were able to park most days on the unrestricted nearby street once the day trippers had left - even though the town was busy. We would definately stay there again.

“Excellent stay”

My family had an enjoyable weeks stay here July 2011. Accomadation was of a good standard and was clean. The kids enjoyed the bonus of a playstation in their bedroom!
Outside patio space was limited, but that was clear prior to booking. Anyway, 20 seconds walk and you were in the centre of village with park benches and green.
No parking at the cottage but never had problem finding a spot nearby. Bourton attracts a lot of daytrippers so after 5pm no problem getting spaces. We managed to park in side road opposite, behind pub every night in view of cottage.
Overall great cottage and village. Would stay here again.

“A Very Nice Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2011 for a stay in October 2011

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 2 children. I was very happy with the location. You just had to walk out the door and everything was there. Bourton on the Water is a quintessential English village which we loved. We were very happy with the cottage and had a wonderful time. Our rooms were furnished to a high standard and the cottage was clean. I think being there out of tourist season made our experience a happier one as I can imagine in the busier months it could be quite crowded and over run with tourists. It is such a beautiful village, I can see why people would want to go there. We found it a perfect base to explore and had some wonderful meals in the local pubs.

My only recommendation would be if there was a drier and internet, but they are only minor disruptions.Yes I would stay at this cottage again. We loved the little courtyard and parked our car around the corner at no charge for all our time there.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in our lovely village, and cottage. To add to your review we have indeed replaced the washing machine with a washer dryer, for those days when the weather is not so good to hang the clothes out !! Hope to see you again soon.

“Nice Cottage,But Not Luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011 for a stay in July 2011

We stayed at Candlemas cottage in July, and as described it is in a good location .Though i would like to point out ,on 3 occasions during our stay.We had to park over night at the coach park,at a cost of £7.50 a night. We went out every day and allways encountered problems trying to find a parking space.on our return.
The cottage was clean in most places, though there were a few cobwebs in the kitchen .We also felt that the court yard wanted a good tidy up .There were no covers on the garden furniture,so when it rained it wasnt possible to sit on it later as it didnt dry out.Towels were provided, but after i few day's i felt they needed a wash. There was only room outside to hang a few items,so i had to put them in the kitchen on an airer. The cutlery provided had plastic (resin ) handles. Some of these were rather worse for wear and we felt not very hygenic .
Overall we had a nice stay at the cottage, the bed's were comfy.Allways plenty of hot water.

Thank you for your review. We do advise all guests that there is no allocated parking at the cottage, and indeed advertise as such. Generally unreserved parking can be found quite easily in the evenings, within 1 or 2 minutes walk of the cottage. The coach car park is the most expensive car park, if you choose that option. Towels are provided for guests, and of course guests are able to wash them after use if needed, or can request more towels if needed. We pride oursleves on the cleanliness of the cottage, and are sorry you found some cobwebs in the kitchen. Cutlery has been already been changed, and garden furniture is due for replacement this year. The Courtyard garden is desribed as small, and as such , in the middle of summer, when the plants are fully grown, and in bloom, space is further restricted, although there is plenty of room to sit around the table. Please see our website for further positive reviews on this lovely cottage.
