Our family of 4 (Mum, Dad, 2 kids) stayed here last winter. We booked Church Cottage. I forget exactly what we paid for the house, but it was a complete rip-off for what we got. The house is in dire need of a complete overhaul. The furniture was so old, it was filthy and we hated even sitting on the chairs! There was carpet in the bathroom and it stank! The sheets on the bed were "knobbly" with age. The house was alive with flies! In the middle of each night, I would be woken up by the sound of flies buzzing around the landing light (which we had left on for the children). In the morning, I would have to vacuum up the same dead flies. On our return to the house every day, the carpet in our children's bedroom was littered with dead flies - we counted 34 one day!! Funnily enough, there was a note on the mantlepiece saying "there may be a problem with flies, here is some Fly Spray". We didn't cook in the house - it was just too filthy! When we got home, I wrote a rather "gentle" letter to the owner informing her of the severity of the fly problem. I received a nasty reply back without a word of apology (she basically said I was rediculous to complain about these harmless flies - she referred to them as a "natural phenomenon"). She also said that if I wanted my son's swimming goggles returned, I should send her the money first, for the postage. Wonderful customer service!! The final straw was discovering she had charged our credit card an extra 150 pounds for light/heat during our stay. I complained to the Tourist Board but they couldn't do anything about it since she hadn't renewed her membership fees.. We go away every year and always stay in self-catering houses all over the globe - this was the worst experience we ever had. I, like the previous poster, agree that the owner is incredibly greedy. I would advise steering well clear of this place.

Second: On the helpful information form we give to all visitors on arrival for their keys we state in bold print that if there is any problem please contact us immediately & that telephone calls from the properties to us are FREE, to make this easy.
This visitor, however, despite meeting my staff round & about the place on several occassions said absolutely nothing at the time about any problem, but chose instead to write to us complaining weeks after her stay.
I asked her why she had not told us at the time when we could have done something immediately to help with the autumn cluster flies invasion she said they suffered, and I said this was `foolish` - what else could it be called? - but the word apparently sent her stratospheric.... resulting in her terrible misrepresentation of our cottage in this posted review - the same property for which we have high praises from other visitors in writing to show if proof is required.
