“What Inspired Him?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

All of the 51 seniors in our group enjoyed talking to the guides and seeing the beautifully lit pictures.
But one question remains unanswered - on Munnings visit to Amsterdam with his friend from Norwich one picture inspired Him.
Which one was it?

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014

This is a wonderful art museum and they seem to have got everything right. Plenty of free car parking, an attractive garden takes you to the entrance where we were warmly greeted and advised which way to start the visit. Munnings paintings are superb and he had many different styles and subjects as well as an usual private life. You can learn so much as there is plenty of information in each of the rooms, also the stewards offer extra details to add to the enjoyment.
The house is charming and has been put to good use to display his art work which is changed from time to time.
The visit to his studio and then the tea rooms made this a perfect visit.

“Lovely house and setting for Arthur Munnings pictures”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

This is a really lovely small picture gallery in the house Aurthur Munnings lived in. It is very welcoming and relaxed - sit and look at the lovely paintings. While I am not a great fan of paintings of horses, for which he is famous, there are plenty of other lovely works to look at in the elegant surroundings of the house. Finish off with tea in the cafe.

“An excellent afternoon's visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014

It was easy to find. It had good refreshment facilities (needed on a hot day) and there was a range of merchandising for those who go in for it. Staff were helpful and friendly.
The museum itself was small enough not to overwhelm, but large enough to be worthwhile. It was intelligently curated and offered a good overview of Munnings' life and range of output. I learned a lot.

“A worthwhile trip and delight to see.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

Having checked the website for opening times (it is not open everyday and only afternoons) Made a day trip to the lovely area around Dedham and visited on a glorious summers day when the grounds looked their best.
Volunteer staff excellent to guide and answer queries in this homely house left much as it was in the Munnings' day. Pictures displayed with good captions and story of Sir Alfred and the periods and people of influence in his life well told. His note books and sketches added to the interest and story. Pictures shown on two floors of house - no lift evident.
It is the story of a great painter of recent time who was his own man. Interesting short video interview of Lady Munnings in black and white made an interesting side attraction.
After the house visit the studio in the gardens and the excellent tea room adjoining.
A great day out for us!
