We live 3 miles down the road in Colchester, and as we were going to Le Talbooth for a 60th Birthday bash, it seemed ideal having a night away and staying at Milsoms.
I have to say how disappointed we were. Our room, room 16, is on the ground floor, and despite being 'delux' was poorly decorated, not what you would expect for the price. The room was noisy, mainly because of the room above, the floorboard creeked with every move that the guests above made. The guests above were our relatives, so we managed to be cheeky and mention the noise to my aunt and uncle (who were also noticing the nose they were making, they were suffering from the noise of the floorboards in the room above, which was the loft room). They said that whatever floorboard they walked they creeked and later they purposely avoided the worst creeking boards to minimise the noise they made, knowing that we had small children. I have had better nights at Premier Inn and Holiday Inn hotels in the past.
The bathroom looks stunning at a glance, but upon close inspection, it has missing grout and my husband got a nasty shock when he stubbed his toe on the uneven and badly laid tiles on the floor.
We live 3 miles down the road, and for many years have visited Milsoms for meals with friends and family. We got married at Le Talbooth 8 years ago and have always found the Milsoms group to have a very high standard, however, have to stay that our stay has very much left a sour taste in my mouth. When we got married, we managed to fill every room at Milsoms with family and a few friends, and family who stayed there last night noticed a delicine in the quality of the decor and standards. We did complain at check-out but reception did not seem too concerned.
