“frequent visitor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We cannot rate Tiptree Tearooms highly enough. The food is excellent, varied and covering all tastes with large portion sizes. Although it is frequently busy all of the staff are welcoming, never seem stressed and you are treated like old friends and never rushed. Although we visit all of the tearooms owned by Wilkinson's we much prefer the Jam Factory for it's welcome and lovely ambience.

“underwhelmed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

firstly there is lack of signage to find the Wilkins factory --and when we arrived we were surprised how small the visitors area was. the museum was very interesting with documentation dating back to the forming of the company , together with some exhibits of the old machinery and utensils that were originally used on the farm and in the factory.there was also a highly informative rolling film.
the shop was full of the various products that Wilkins produce and it would have been interesting if we could have sampled some of their lesser known products -- this I would suggest increase their shop sales.
the tea-shop was more like a café and did little to promote the Wilkins products , although we enjoyed a superb cream tea.
there is no doubt that Wilkins produce top quality products that are famous all over the world and none would look out of place in the queens larder - but as for a tourist attraction the tiptree jam museum and tea room is lacking in things to do and see.

“Over rated!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

Disappointing. If you are expecting somewhere with charm to go and have a lovely cream tea then don't go here! The tea room decor is very basic and something you'd expect from a builders cafe but without the cheap prices. It's expensive and totally overrated.

Called in the sea museum and had a coffee, nice place worth a visit, very interesting, and don't forget the shop, good selection of all they make.

“Extremely over priced restaurant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Visited tiptree jam factory whilst staying with relatives in essex and I was extremely disappointed in the restaurant.
The food was extremely over priced for what it was and the portions were tiny. I ordered a jacket potato with cheese, salad and coleslaw. When it arrived the potato was lukewarm, the salad was a couple of limp lettuce leaves and the 'coleslaw' was (no exaggeration) a 3 bits of cabbage in mayonnaise. I was very disappointed and it cost me £6.45!
My aunts prawn sandwich was a funny color and she had to send it back because instead of pink it arrived bright orange?!
The entire meal cost over £20 which in my opinion is a con. So if you head to the cafe BEWARE. It is very over priced and the food is not great quality.
