My wife and I went to Edith's House for lunch on Friday 22nd February. This is indeed a lovely little cafe. It's quirky and interesting and the service is attentive and well paced. The food was fine too.
But, at the time of writing, according to TripAdvisor reviews, this is supposed to be the best restaurant in Rye. It's a fine cafe but it really isn't the best restaurant in town when there are places like the Tuscan Kitchen, the Ambrette and, a little further afield, The Plough at Cock Marling.
I think it's a matter of aspiration versus expectation. For our visit, there were 6 items on the menu (2 soups, 4 salads) and to be frank, there's not a huge amount that can go wrong with such food. It is not fair to directly compare this to a restaurant with a full menu where aspirations and expectations are considerably higher.
Don't get me wrong, there really is nothing wrong with Edith's House, it's just that there are much better dining experiences nearby.
