Description: As new owners to the pub as of mid December 2013 we have carried out a refurbishment to the pub bringing a new lease of life to a great pub. The Ypres Castle Inn (Wipers) is a 17th Century pub that offers a large selection of local real ales along with lagers and most others drinks found in public houses. We provide a lunch and evening menu of local produce all cooked within the pub kitchen. At busy times you may incur a slight delay with food orders due to large order volumes and small kitchen facilities but the wait is worth it. We have a large beer garden with pleasant views. We are child and dog friendly. We have live music on a Friday night from 9.30pm and again on Sunday evening from 7.00 until 9.00pm In August we have an outside stage for music for a few weeks please check the website for more information on this nearer the time. The pub is located next to the Ypres Castle which is adjacent to Rye Church We look forward to seeing you soon

“Friendly atmosphere, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Have been here for a drink at the weekend a couple of times and the bar has been full of people eating, so thought we would try it out.

Started with whitebait, which was nicely cooked and came in a generous sized portion, enough for 2 to share as a starter, and was amongst the best I have tasted in the UK. One of our companions had the curried parsnip soup, which they loved.

My partner had the scallops and chorizo special, which was excellent and perfectly cooked. Our companion the lamb hotpot which they loved and I had the cod and chips. Unfortunately I found the batter greasy and tasteless and the fish had almost dissolved inside, so one I'd avoid in future.

Overall though, the food is above average for pub grub and with a good selection of local beers, we will be going back to try out the Sunday roasts sometime soon.

There is an outdoor seating area which should be ready in the summer, with good views across the river.

“Dinner for six”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

For our Friday night dinner in Rye we were reccommended the Ypres Castle Inn. Worth the visit, after sampling a pint or two of the local draught beer, dinner was really good, I chose local smoked fresh prawns followed by fresh scallops from the 'dailys special board' all washed down with the very reasonably priced house wine...perfect.

“Delicious Lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Visited Rye on a cold day midweek in February! Not the best time. However, the day improved when we fould this great pub. Sadly, it was very quiet so I can't comment on the atmosphere but the food was well worth a comment. A lovely young barman looked after us extremely well and the food (fish cakes, boiled potatoes and salad) was absolutely delicious! We will definitely return on a nice hot summers day!!

“A haven from the chill!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

The pub was recommended by the receptionist from the hotel we stayed at, and we went to celebrate my 50th birthday. The evening was bitterly cold and we staggered down the steps from Ypres Tower towards the comforting warmth of the 'Wipers' Castle as it's locally known. The door was flung open and we entered a little haven of warmth. There was an open fire in the bar, an eclectic choice of music playing softly in the background and some amazing food served to us with a lovely smile! The crayfish salad was perfect and the hotpot had some of the most delicious dumplings ever! All produce is locally sourced. Even with drinks and pud, the evening was very reasonably priced.
