Stayed there for the first night of my UK trek. Taking the train in from Gatwick was easy and gave me a good intro to the English countryside. Once in Hastings, the hotel is either a half mile walk straight through town to the beach then hang a right to the pier OR a short taxi ride.
The hotel itself was nice. I'm not sure about all the rooms, but the one I got was on the 2nd floor looking out to the ocean. It had a nice, comfy bed, flat screen tv mounted on the wall, a desk, a pair of chairs and an attached bathroom. The bathroom was very contemporary, along the lines of a 5 star hotel, must have just been re-done. The room was clean and adequate, a slightly above average deal for the price.
The dining area downstairs was pleasant and had a fantastic terrace("patio" in American English, lol) on the street. In the mornings you'll see people walking the beach digging up clams. There's also a post office, laundromat and convenience store just a few doors down from the hotel. There's also 2 coffeeshops a block a way and a few pubs about 3 and 4 blocks away. The staff is very friendly and helpful and includes a cat that I saw.
One sidenote, the hotel is run by anti-smoking nazi's, which is great if youre a non-smoker, but sucks if you do smoke. Youre not even allowed to smoke on the terrace. There are signs posted threatening a 100 pound(that's $200 USD!) "cleaning fee" if you smoke in your room. I smoke so I had to go downstairs everytime I wanted a smoke.
If I ever go to Hastings again(doubtful, since I was just going to see the battlefield in nearby and having done that there's no real reason for me to go back), I would def stay at this place again.
The only caveat is the one night I was there, there was a drum circle outside, across the street on the beach. I have no idea if this was a nightly, weekly, monthly, etc. thing. I was so tired I fell asleep by 9, but they were still playing. Might want to call the hotel and ask about this.
