“Lovely, unusual ,old stone building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

I recently spent two nights at the Highlands Inn in St Leonards on sea. I was very impressed with the building itself and by the fact it had it's own private parking. The room was bright, clean and airy and we enjoyed a full cooked English breakfast. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Considering this hotel has only recently been refurbished and relaunched they are doing an excellent job. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel is in a very central location just off the sea front and it has free parking out front with a lawn area and seating.A convenience store, seafront, pubs, restaurants & shops all within walking distance into Hastings. The guy who greeted us was really friendly and helpful. We booked a family room for the night which was clean and had an en suite and a pretty cool view taboot!. The hotel in itself is quirky and has a certain charm to it . I had the full English for breakfast which was very tasty. For the price, location and friendliness we received, more than satisfied and made for a short but pleasant stay.

We stayed on Sunday night. The room was disgusting dirty and the bed linen was not even ironed! The bathroom shower had human hairs in it of all sorts! The toilet brush still had excrement on it. The toilet did not work (my husband mended it). The pillows stank.

Don't go there - they are friendly but the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired.

I asked for scambled egg on toast - I got a chopped up omelette on toast. There was no orange juice. The tea was plonked on the table in a mug - no tableclothes. Diabolical.

Room Tip: Don't stay there!

Stayed for one night, loved the fact we stayed in a "castle" for a more than reasonable price, rooms were clean and airy. 5 minutes walk to the sea after a lovely breakfast served by chatty helpful staff. Felt very welcome and would defiantly return.

We booked the hotel for one night to attend a wedding. we paid £99 B&B for a family room. The bedroom was a reasonable size with one double and two single beds. The location was quiet and about 30mins walk from the centre of Hastings. It is on a hill and so not suitable for walking if you have mobility problems. The decor was very dated and paper was coming off the walls. The windows and fittings in the room were filthy and the furniture dated,. the bathroom was adequate but very dated. The whole room was tired and stuck in the 70's. The biggest problem was that the room stank of nicotine and the walls seemed yellow from it. After one night sleeping there we got home and our nightwear (worn just the once there) smelt like an ashtray. On the positive side the staff were fine and the English breakfast was excellent with fresh strawberries on the table, croissants, toast, cereal and full cooked options.
Overall we were dissappointed with the room decor but as a place just to stay for one night it was reasonable value.

Stayed overnight following a friends funeral. My experience was a very nice clean room at the back of the hotel but still with a bit of a sea view. Perfectaly acceptable en-suite with some lovely fluffy towels. A very nice clean and very comfortable bed. An excellent breakfast, which you could say was the 'full monty', strawberries on the table, various ceral's , orange juice, Croisants, a range of differnet options for english breakast from two of everything to just what you want, toast,tea/coffee. I was on the 3rd floor so a few steps. The Inn is also at the top of a bit of a hill but not to difficult. On the basis of my one night would recommend for a day/few days stay.
