Description: The Restaurant combines classic Victorian elegance with contemporary ‘beach chic’. Bold deck-chair stripe upholstery, thick, white-washed drift-wood tables, a gorgeous white baby-grand piano, all set against calm white walls adorned with big decorative mirrors and menu boards showing the morning’s catch of fresh fish. The perfect setting has been created in which to enjoy the culinary know-how of the Pier Nine team. Ben Krikorian, the head-chef, is young and hungry. He works with a passion that is evident in the visual presentation and flavour of everything that leaves the kitchen. From mature Sussex fillet steak to sea bass, crab, clam, champagne linguine(not to mention delicious vegetarian options), each dish is produced with love, and delivered by friendly waitresses who are more than happy to recommend a particular wine or just stop for a chat!

“Coped with Kids as well.”

We visted early eveng on the weekend just before storm due. Six of us with 2 grandsons. Meals served quite quickly. Nice ambiance. The main problem was finding the place.

“A game if two halves...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

So, buoyed by the great reviews , we visited Pier Nine for the first time last week. A busy Saturday night, it was pretty much full.
The two halves comes in as follows:
The bad:
1. Some of the foreign staff didn't seem particularly knowledgable. Eg "is the Chardonnay oaked or unoaked". " Sorry, I don't know!". Not so much as a "I'll check for you". A few niggles like this. Having to ask for bread knives.. And plates! You get the picture .
2. Then, my wife and I both asked for fillet steal. Medium cooked. Both came to us overlooked and well done. Not good. We were on a timing too so we knew no time to send them back and wait for new ones. It was obvious they were well done but noone said anything until we told them.
And now the good bit:
1. Overall, staff were v friendly and the vibe in the place was v good.
2. They took the steal meal costs off our bill, without hesitation and without us even thinking to mention it. Impressive.
So, would we go back? For sure. Need to try it again. Would we have preferred to have had a meal as we wished and not a "free" but overbooked steak? You bet. Every time. But the way they did handle it, has to be admired.
We'll be back...

“What we expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Sunday-lunched at Pier Nine at Zanzibar with friends who live in St Leonards. Difficult to gain access to the restaurant; we rang the bell for both the restaurant and the hotel twice but nothing happened, eventually another diner close to the door had to leave his lunch and admit us – he did this on two occasions. Our choices from the set Sunday menu were adequate and what we had expected. We enjoyed the experience of visiting this rather elegant, shabby chic restaurant/hotel with helpful and polite staff. A downside was that there was only one single unisex toilet for the whole of the restaurant and waiting whilst someone was using it felt somewhat uncomfortable. Would return without hesitation.

“Elegant seafront restaurant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

This one of our local favourites. We love the atmosphere, both inside and, during the summer, outside in the terraced garden. Food and service are excellent without being over-fussy. We particularly like to sample the lunch time menu.

“Gorgeous food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Six of us went to eat here after reading other recommendations. We were not disappointed at all. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere was relaxing and unhurried. The food was lovely and the right amount to fill you up but not to the point of feeling over full. The steak I had was cooked to perfection and is probably one of the best I have tasted. Overall it is not cheap by any means, but you know that whatever you order will be good quality and totally enjoyable. Can't wait to go back.
