“Lovely pub, beer and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013 via mobile

This is a great little pub, busy and friendly. The Fuller's beers are well kept, the staff are friendly and the food is fantastic. We had seafood risotto, lovely creamy and lots of seafood in it. Our friends' cod and chips were served with 'the best mushy peas I ever tasted!' Not always easy to get seats, and lots of stools so not great for those who need a back to sit against, but otherwise you won't be disappointed. PS reasonably priced too...

“Best Homemade Burger Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Visited this pub on a recommendation from a barman we spoke to who told us how good the food was. Nice traditional looking pub, friendly staff, good mixture of young and old. We looked at the extensive menu and picked the homemade burgers when they arrived they tasted as good as they looked really filling, proper rustic and homemade and just gorgeous my partner claims it was " the best homemade burger ever" highly recommend if in Brighton and want a quieter lunch away from the very busy lanes.

“What's gone wrong?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

It pains me to write a poor review of this place as it's been my favourite pub for many a year but it's really gone off the boil. Last two visits - had hoped the first was just a glitch - the food has been very mediocre. On top of that the new intake of staff (Friday lunchtime) aren't the usual friendly lot - they're clearly not happy and don't make you feel at all welcome. Didn't mind the expensive beer in the past as the food, ambience and staff more than made up for it but not now. Come on Basketmakers, please up your game.

“Great beer, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

With family and friends in nearby Lewes, we never miss a lunch at the Basketmakers on our annual trip back to East Sussex. The beer (Fullers, Gales, guest beers) is really well kept and served, there's an extensive selection of whiskies and the pub food is exemplary. Staff are friendly and efficient, the clientele a mix of locals and tourists.
Our 13-year-old son said the house burger was the best he'd had on the whole trip (and he eats a lot of burgers...), while our daughter had a piece of beer-battered haddock which was so big she couldn't finish it. As for the seafood platter which my wife and I shared: a vast heap of whitebait, two large prawns, two "goujons" of battered cod which were each the size of a small fillet... this was very generous portion control. Excellent value for money.
This was our fourth visit to the Basketmakers, and it won't be our last.
