“Great value and excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

The restaurant initially comes over as someone's front room but I was very impressed by the overall feel and great food. The menu is set £30 for two courses and £35 for three. There is a wide wine list with 10 + by the glass
The food has a number of interesting combinations such as suckling pig with radish chillis and
Noodles. It may sound unusually but worked really well . The restaurant was nearly full when we went on a Thursday so book well in advance
Well recommended , they also have a loyalty card for regular dinners

“We Loved It !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

First visit to Gingerman and certainly will return. Three of us went for lunch and enjoyed a really delicious meal, we chose from the lunch menu and we all had the crispy cod with pea puree and tartare sauce to start - delicious, for main's I had the braised brisket with jersey royal potatoes, roast onion, broad beans and horseradish cream which was not normally something I would have picked but the other option was another fish dish. The brisket melted in the mouth and the whole plate was really tasty and well put together. The other main choice of smoked haddock with herb mashed potato, poached egg and beurre blanc was declared delicious by my companions. The accompanying home made bread (still warm) was divine. We really didn't need a pudding but two of us could not resist the sound of the salted toffee soufflé with banana cream and popcorn ice cream - this was not on the lunch menu so we each paid an £8 supplement and wow did that deliver - it has to be up there as one of the best deserts ever. It's a lovely room although I would imagine that some might find the tables a little close together if the restaurant was full. The service was attentive, efficient and charming and we could not find a single thing to fault. The food is beautifully presented as well as being extremely delicious and we thought that the lunch menu was extremely good value. Really lovely restaurant so thank you Zoe Ball for mentioning it in an article as we'd never have found it otherwise.

“Great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Was unsure where to go in Brighton and only chose this place as it was raining and this was close to our hotel. The atmosphere was great and staff very friendly. The food was fantastic, really tasty all 3 courses and the bottle of wine. The difficult part was choosing what to eat. Would defiantly go again especially with the locality card. Good value too.

“Food excellent, service very good, ambience not perfect.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

For a birthday treat we decided to have a meal in Brighton and friends recommended The Gingerman as the best restaurant in the city. Given the quality of the food and wine we ate and drank, the £95 bill, not including service, was fine by us and we welcomed the efficient and friendly service.
The restaurant went the extra mile by putting a happy birthday message, written in chocolate, on a dessert plate and putting a candle in the ice cream...nice touches!
The bread, butter, olives and wild garlic soup, were all excellent and were served in addition to the courses we ordered. The crab starter was excellent but the trout was not quite so special. However, the fillet of beef and stone bass main courses, were both top drawer. The bass dish included some delicious cockles and the beef came with lovely touches, including the best snails I've ever eaten.
I had the welsh rarebit flavoured with Guiness, instead of my usual choice of cheese and for me, the rarebit really had the 'wow' factor. The soufle dessert had risen perfectly, was very light and tasted wonderful.
Our only reasons for not giving an all out excellent review are: 1. The air conditioning was blasting cold air in our direction (although we understand that customers in other parts of the restaurant were hot, when it was turned off). 2. For such a high class restaurant, we found the closeness to other customers and the music, obtrusive to the point of finding it difficult to enjoy our conversation or, at times, to even hear one another.
Would not hesitate to go back, the food is worth it.
