“Clean, perfect location warm n friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

Clean hotel, friendly staff and within 2 mins walking distance of all main attractions. Would definitely book again, highly recomended. Would try and get with sea view, book direct at website or phone as very helpfull but if you can't get with a view, don't worry too much as we had no view, but clean rooms and positioning more than made up for this :)

Booked into the George for last Thurs and Fri night a superior room with sea view at £225 for two people for the two nights including breakfast. Very clean and friendly hotel only two comments to make, carpeted bathroom and loo yuk not very hygienic I have to say would have preferred to be on tiles or laminate simply because of the loo area to be honest. And breakfast states that you get 'Eggs on Thick cut toasted bread...... it was one egg, on one slice of bread which was cut in two and a couple of bits of bacon that had been fried to death..... we only had breakfast on the first morning and went out for breakfast on day two...... but still a nice place to stay and lovely staff ..

Room Tip: I would again recommend booking a superior room with sea view

Dear Lloyd J,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write us a review, we really do appreciate feedback from our guests. I will most certainly pass on the comments about friendliness of staff and the cleanliness of the hotel, I'm sure the team here will be very pleased.

In terms of the carpeted bathroom, we are very sorry this was a dissapointment. We will be further developing and refurbishing the hotel in the near future, to try to ensure that our guests have the very best stay they can. We would love for you to come back and stay with us again, and perhaps try out a different room that would be more to your taste.

Our breakfast is also constantly developing, and we have just this week launched a brand new breakfast menu which guests have been delighted with. I have passed on your feedback to our chefs so that we can provide the best breakfast possible for all of our guests.

We are very glad that overall you enjoyed your stay with us, and look forward to welcoming you back some time in the future.

Kind Regards,
Lucy, Noemi and the George IV Team

We recently stayed in this hotel with my wife for 5 nights and we will definitely choose it again in our next trip to Brighton. Position is excellent and if you choose a room with sea view, well you could not ask for more really. Personnel at the reception was very kind and joyful and helped us a lot to find all the right places for dinner etc. They even helped us out when we lost our wallet.
The room we stayed in was large enough, well equiped and with a beautiful sea view.
Breakfast was served i a very pleasant lobby, nicely decorated.
We would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room with sea view, it is certainly worth it.

I recently stayed at this Guest House and found the staff to be generally very poor and unresponsive despite the generally nice standard of the building.

Rooms are noisy and sound travels quite a bit! Very bizarre clientele lots of Spanish and Italian tourists/students !

Pros: Reasonably central location, though there are a number of sketchy characters around after dark coming back from pubs, etc.

Cons: The lack of a night porter or duty staff, meant that requests were not handled quickly. Rooms are not insulated so this meant sound traveled quite far.

Overall, good enough if you can get a good price for a few days tops!

There is lots of choice in Brighton so shop around !

Dear OttawaTravel2012,

Thankyou for your review, we are always keen to take in to account feedback so we can ensure the best stay possible for our guests. I would firstly like to apologise that you found the staff to be unresponsive and that there was not a night porter available to assist with any out of hours queries. The staff team at the George has now changed, and we have a new front of house team, as well as ensuring that a night porter is on duty 7 nights a week.
Due to the age of the building we do experience maintenance issues from time to time. Thank you for drawing the noise you experienced, we are currently looking into the insulation of the building as part of our ongoing redevelopment plan.

We do hope you'll consider giving the George IV another try when you next visit Brighton!

Kind Regards,

Lucy and the George IV Team

Me and my boyfriend just sent a wonderful weekend at the george. We had room 5a on the 3rd floor which had excellent views, lots of space that made it feel more like our own studio, spotlessly clean, great bed and generally everything really helped you relax and feel comfortable.
some of the plus of the place are the complimentary good quality teas and coffees and toiletries. also the speakers to connect your ipod and books and films to borrow! it's very nicely decorated and doesn't feel 'victorian-kitch' at all.
we had both lived in brighton as students and know the city well so we can ensure you the location is perfect!
only suggestion will be: make breakfast available at the room and do keep it available until 11am or so. 8-10am is very early if you want to have a lazy sunday after a night out in a party city like brighton

My wife and our 9 month old son stayed at George IV while visiting friends. This was our first international trip with our son so we were a little nervous about finding appropriate accommodation that was both comfortable, but also in a good location for us to explore the town. First of all, the staff at the George IV (who are the same as the staff of the adjoining Artist Residence hotel) were fantastic - patient with our many calls before the booking, accommodating with our early check in after arriving in the UK bright and early in the morning after an overnight flight, and super helpful with recommendations about Brighton and finding us the right transportation back to London after our stay. Our room was very comfortable (we stayed in a Supervior Seaview room on the second floor with a beautiful view of Regency Square and the sea), and we didn't experience any unusual levels of noise, and were always able to use the elevator which was handy with a little baby. I read the previous comment about the breakfast being unimpressive, but both my wife and I were disappointed that we only managed to make it down one of the mornings (because of our son's sleep schedule) - it was that good, but then again people have different standards and preferences for food, but in no way would I consider what the hotel offered to be bad. George IV will be the first place we contact if/when we make our way back to Brighton!

Room Tip: Definitely recommend the room with seaviews - well-worth the extra cost for beautiful views of the s...

Stayed at the George IV during the summer and found it noisy and overpriced.

The room I had was at the top of the building, there was a lift but it seldom worked.

The room was a bit small and the bath room was a shoe box. The was no shower, just an attachment over the bath that spluttered out cold water.

The was constant noise in the room. This was coming from the yard and parking area at the back of the hotel. A builders van would fill it up here about 6am and there was lots of noise. The noise also came from other guests in the hotel and the staff smashing about in the morning cleaning the rooms and corridors. The rooms are very close to each other and every room is directly onto the corridor.

£84 a night for a noisy, small room - not great at all and I would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't bother with breakfast - it's fresh from the cash and carry. Save your money.
