My husband had planned a last minute get away to this hotel for our wedding anniversary (2 days). On the afternoon we were due to check in, the hotel cancelled our reservation. My husband very old fashioned and likes to pay in cash. He had checked with the hotel that it was ok to pay by cash and apparently it was. There had been a couple of conversations between us and we were told to put the deposit back in the bank and it would be fine. So we did, then another phone call to say that no sorry it wont go through becuase the whole stay needs to be paid for. This was required because if we had trashed the room or "smoked in it" it would need to be paid for and they needed a card with credit on it. We couldnt give it to them becuase we had drawn all the money out for the entire weekend. We did explain if a deposit was required we could leave the cash with them until we checked out and if it was OK they could give the money back. No still not good enough. This hotel completly spoilt my wedding anniversay and I am very uspet they treated us like this. Completly arrogant and didnt care. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Just got back from our third stay at Colson House. Twice in the Clark Gable room, this time we went for Bette Davis. Lovely warm comfortable room, nice touches such as milk and water in the fridge which particularly pleased my husband as he drinks loads of tea!
Mark and Eamon are the nicest hosts, everything is immaculate and the breakfast is perfectly cooked and enough to keep you going until well after lunch!
We ate at Sawadee, a nearby Thai restaurant. Crowded and deservedly so, the food is excellent.
Mark also told us about The Tea Cosy, a wonderfully kitsch tea room. Didnt make it there this time but definitely on our next visit!
Hmmm, next time will it be Audrey....or maybe Marilyn?

Had a lovely 1 night stay at Closon House in the Clark Gable room. Every thing was spotlessly clean, the bathroom was a lovely size (as mentioned before, shower pressure little bit lacking) bed was extremely comfortable and the room was lovely and warm. Liked the fresh milk and water in the fridge - very nice touch, so much better to be able to make a proper cuppa! Really couldn't fault anything at all. Fab location, lots of great places to drink and eat within minutes walk. Eamon and Mark both very friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a clean, modern well-located B&B - this is your place! Stay there, you wont be disappointed!

  • Liked — Cosy bed!
