“Enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

It is such a pleasure when a hotel advertises that its rooms have air conditioning that said air conditioning actually works (and very well)!

Situated in a busy area near to the railway station the rooms are quiet, clean with a very comfortable bed.

This is the 3rd time I have stayed here and is now better that they have an agreement with the nearby car park in North Street to park for £13. Previously it was £25.00 - the regular rate.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms aren't worth the extra charge imo.

Stayed here 8th August 2014. 3 of us shared one room. Had a double bed and a single bunkbed over this. Shower, separate toilet and table. Small but had all the basics and for only £15 a night wouldn't expect much more. Comfy beds and appeared clean. Had to pay £5 for parking, I did not mind as room so cheap and car was safe this way.
I did expected basics like shampoo, hair dryer and more than one set of towels and it had none of this. Also the shower has a see-through glass and allows for no privacy, which I personally did not like! Would stay here again though, as was more than enough for somewhere to crash after a night out.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

Had a very pleasant stay here over an August weekend. Not much contact with staff apart from checking in. Thought the room might be noisy as it faced the street but no problem there and no internal noise even though there was the usual gaggle of hens staying and the place was full for Gay Pride weekend.

Room very clean and had most of what you need for a couple of nights - a hand towel would have been nice but the bathroom was spotless and had a great walk in shower.

Only gripe would be the price - it was about £300.00 total for the two nights so they were really taking advantage of the timing - but this is Brighton and you cna pay that money to stay in far less salubrious surroundings.

Very handy for the station and plenty of parking at the London Road car park which is about 10 mins away and much cheaper than the central ones.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review online and rating us with 4 stars. I was very happy to see the hotel achieving 5 stars for sleep quality and 4 stars for service, however I was slightly disappointed that we only achieved 3 stars for value. Having reviewed your comments, I would like to highlight that although you did pay £300 for the 2 night stay, we were still the cheapest hotel in Brighton on that weekend especially in our calibre of hotels and do offer significant discounts via our website for advanced bookings. Thank you once again for your comments and my team and I look forward to welcoming you back soon again. Kindest regards, Dominic Sauls, General Manager

You want a room to stay for a couple of nights as part of a two week journey. You don't want dear, because you are on a budget, but you don't want very cheap as that can often disappoint (unless it really does not matter to you).

Hotel Ibis does the job, but like all chains, the service is less than welcoming. Perfunctory without really caring.

Given key cards to room, but never explained that you needed them to use the lifts!!

They charge if you want to leave your case with them while you do last minute bits after checking out.

Room was fine but the 'chain' trick of only providing two tea/ coffee bags always seems a bit mean to me, so always a disappointment.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on Tripadvisor, however I was disappointed to read of the service levels experience on reception and with housekeeping. Please rest assured that this is not the normal standards we have come to pride ourselves on at the Ibis Brighton City Centre hotel and I will be sharing this with the teams to get them back on track to deliver a more consistent service. Thank you once again for your feedback and I sincerely hope that you will give us the opportunity to welcome you and your partner back soon again. Kindest regards, Dominic Sauls, General Manager

2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014 via mobile

Having stayed twice in the last month, I have a fairly fresh view of this hotel. Let me say that, on the whole, Brighton hotels are over-priced at almost every level. This one is supposedly a budget hotel, but it aspires to be better. As a business traveller, I want minimum fuss, a quiet room, and no hassle.

The pluses: rooms are clean, if a little stark. Beds are reasonably comfortable. The hotel is close to the station.

The minuses: poor sound-proofing, especially at lower levels 1-2. Internal noises and external noises are audible throughout the night and into the morning. You are best getting a room as high up as you can. The TV is set too dark, the viewing angle is very narrow, and the WiFi - though free - is unstable and slow.

For heaven's sake buy breakfast in the purchase if you want it - don't leave it till you go down in the morning - all hell will break loose if you turn up without pre-paid brekkie!

Brighton is a curate's egg - good in parts. This hotel is in a shabby area, populated by junk food outlets and tacky shops - not unsafe, but not attractive. Car Parking in Brighton is extortionate too. You'll need to hump a bit on foot to get to decent restaurants, for instance.

If you are travelling to Brighton on business, try and get there and back in a day!
