Great food with generous portion sizes (they do dog bags) and very well priced. The staff are great, friendly and obliging. we would highly recommend it.

“SO.SO. GOOD.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Me and my girlfriend finally got around to checking this place out after hearing so many good things about it, and we were not disappointed. We had the "build your own combo" with the pork ribs and pulled pork. it came with a side of fries (we switched them for sweet potato fries, and they were to die for!) and coleslaw, and that was more than enough for two! we struggled to finish it, but the waiter boxed up the left overs for us to take home. The service was quick, the staff were friendly engaging and polite, and the food was AMAZING. Great jack daniels based BBQ sauce too. If you like good meat, this really is the place for you!

“Good Food - Service a bit hit & miss”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Had heard good things about Smokeys so booked for a meal to try it out. It was quite busy with a large party at one of the tables and various other tables of couples and families.
We had a table for two which tucked out of the way which was nice. We shared a starter of prawns in garlic sauce, although the sauce covered the shells of the prawns rather than the meat itself so by the time you'd shelled them there wasn't really any garlic taste.
I had the beef brisket for main, which was delicious and my other half had the ribs, which were also delicious.
Although the food was good the service was a bit hit and miss - a forgotten drink order and a dessert menu that was asked for but never came. We would have had dessert but after ten minutes of waiting for the menu we got bored so paid the bill and got ice cream on the way home instead.
All in all the food is good but we were left feeling a little underwhelmed so doubt that Smokey's will be top of our list of Brighton eateries to revisit.

“Poor service - delicious pulled pork.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

We booked in on a Saturday night, and the place was really busy. Great atmosphere, nice location and comfortable.
We ordered starters and main courses, quesadillas and jalapeños to start, and smoked chicken, brisket and pulled pork for mains.
Our main courses came before we had all finished our starters but we went with it as they were so busy. Starters were good too. All the mains were huge portions of meat, fries and coleslaw. The brisket was lovely, good flavour And just fell apart on the plate. The pulled pork was delicious.
Unfortunately, the chicken wasn't cooked properly. We told the waiter who took it away, only to bring it back and say that smoked chicken should be pink. We told him it wasn't just pink - it was bleeding! The blood came running out when it was cut.
At this point he seemed a bit annoyed and said "what do you want me to do about it?". We told him to bring a cooked one! We did get another, and this time it was cooked, and served with a side order of sarcasm from the waiter.
When we asked for the bill, it arrived with another member of staff who also tried to tell us that the smoked chicken should be pink, and would not accept that the chicken was under cooked as the second one wasn't bleeding!
Smoked chicken can have a pink tinge near the bone, I do get that, but the juices should still run clear if it has been cooked properly. The juices in our chicken were bloody - it just wasn't cooked.
To top it all off - a service charge is automatically added to the bill!!
Would I go back. Sadly no, just because the staff were just bit too arrogant.
