“A journey back in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

If you want to go back to your childhood this is the place to go, a brilliant selection of cars, boats, planes, trains, toys, games, dolls, puppets and bears. Working model railways with the Brighton Belle in operation. Displayed really well and ideal for collectors wanting to purchase a few second hand trains and cars. There is an admission fee but if you visit the Brighton website you can print off a voucher for "buy one get one free"...

“Boring and dumb”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

£4.50 entrance to see a few musty old bears and dusty trains. I've seen better models looking in snoopers paradise down the road. Only take your children here if they've been really naughty and you hate them. Worst museum ever.

We're very sorry you feel this way - there are over 15 000 toys and models on display at the Brighton Toy and Model Museum and many people return and take up membership
Since your visit we have added interactives for the children, adult trails, touch screen tablets and a big screen with more information.
I don't know where you read it is free - perhaps you'd let us know so that we may address this. £4.50 is the top price with many concessions. Vouchers also available from Network Rail, Voucher Cloud an various other marketing bodies.

“Meh.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Boring, waste of money. We read in some other reviews that it was free entry. Turns out it's £4.50 per person and you can complete your entire visit in under two minutes. It would've been worth the journey out if it had been free, but we felt ripped off since there was hardly anything to see at all. A few old dolls, some toy trains, and a Harry Potter doll. Really disappointed. Had a much more interesting time at Snooper's Paradise and even the Brighton Fishing Museum, which is free entry.

We're sorry you were misinformed about the price of entry, although all of our publicity and brochures do contain a list of admission fees.
And it's true, we are a very small museum but we do have over 15,000 toys and models on exhibit. Many people come back again and again and discover something new every time. You will certainly miss a lot of them if you scoot around in 2 minutes!
If you had children who were disappointed you could have asked for an activity pack, this contains a story book, activity cards, colouring packs. On the other hand, if you're an adult and you're not really interested in old toys, the museum probably isn't the place for you.
If you're ever back in Brighton you should come back and ask one of our volunteers to show you around properly: I'm sure you'll find that we've got lots more than a few old dolls, trains, and a Harry Potter doll!

“Excellent little museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

A hidden gem! A very interesting little museum situated under Brighton central station, with a lovely vaulted ceiling. You can see working model trains, meccano models, dolls, puppets, cars and planes, there must be thousands of toys from the past here, all immaculately preserved. Lots of fun for adults and children alike.
