“Fantastic bbq!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Pub doesn't look much from the street, but inside is surprisingly large & roomy. Good choice of real ales. My wife & I had the Dinner Plate Pulled Pork, & it was fantastic. Beautiful flavour & so tender. Recommended. Will eat here again next time we are in Brighton.

“Hangin around”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

It was obvious that our food had been cook many hours before. Im sure that had it come straight out the bbq it would have been fantastic. But it hadn't. Everything was as dry as Ghandis flip flops. you could have soaked up the Lewes floods of 2000 with how dry the meat was.

However its still a top pub!

“Enormous portions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

Great BBQ food. I had smoked chicken and asked for rice and beans but got fries and onion rings. No matter, it was tasty and I got half a chicken with BBQ sauce on the side.

The only thing I hate about this place is the beeper behind the bar that lets staff know food is ready. It beeps loudly until staff go to turn it off. Surely it could beep once and leave the blue light flashing?

“Good food but ketchup is banned!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013 via mobile

fuelled by generally positive reviews we headed out to the World's End, not a regular haunt by any means. The place is friendly as are the staff. The extensive menu looks great. We ordered a 3-meat plate, which came with fries and onion rings, plus pickles and salad. We chose pulled pork (v good) brisket (a little dry but v tasty) and Mexican chorizo (personally not a fan). The garnishes were both a disappointing and rather meagre offering. The fries were ok and the rings dry and tough like they'd been made a while ago. However food wise, it's good stuff. But the one thing that will prevent me from returning is the controversial decision over condiments. You want their BBQ sauce? No problem. But that's all they do. No mayo, no mustard, no dressing, no tabasco, and NO KETCHUP. Their policy explained the barman, with a feint apology. In Texas they may respect this purity. But I might also call it arrogance. If I'm paying nearly thirty pounds for some fast food and a couple of beers then allow me to slather whatever the hell I want on your food please. For one thing, chips with BBQ sauce is a no-no. And anyway, that kind of attitude went out with Chez Nico (who threw people out of his restaurants in the 80s when they asked for salt). that said, their food is mostly v tasty. Just BYOK.

“Amazing slow cooked meat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

I have been going to BBQ Shack for a while and have never been disappointed, regularly getting the beef brisket sandwich which is always perfectly cooked meat, tender and tastes delicious with plenty of added extras such as chilis, pickles and home made bbq sauce. The pulled pork is great also! The pub is nice with a good selection of beers and ciders.
