Although we live in Brighton and eat out quite a bit, today was our first visit to Cote. We will definitely return and recommend to friends and family. Will mention the two aspects that detracted from a 5* rating first -
1] Restaurant area is very big and quite noisy, hence not the place to go for a special occasion such as a romantic meal for two! (Though the quality of food is special!)
2] Did not like the 'discretionary' 12.5% service charge being added automatically. We mentioned this and so it was not then added to our bill and we gave what we felt was a fair and adequate tip. We were not made to feel awkward about this. (After all 12.5% on a bottle of very expensive wine, is very different to 12.5% on a glass of Coke/fruit juice).
Moans over, the food was delicious, beautifully presented and filling. Flavours were great and we felt we had had a quality meal for a reasonable price. Appreciated water (in attractive stone bottles) automatically being given at the start of the meal. The complimentary apple licquor at the end of our meal was a lovely and enjoyable surprise!
We were amazed at how full the restaurant was at 5.30pm but now we know why!
Staff were all lovely - friendly and attentive but not in an 'in your face' way.
Look forward to our next visit.
