“Average hotel. Good position for sight seeing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

We stayed just one night (to see Joe Bonamassa at the Brighton Centre). Requested sea view, and paid £245 for two people for one night. Public rooms okay, but we were not allowed to park at front even though there were spaces as 'they may be having a BBQ there NEXT DAY'? Small room on 4th floor, with one small dirty window for sea view! We were in the attic. Appreciate old building so not worried about sloping floors, but there were lose tiles on bathroom floor, as well as some long blonde hairs (not ours). Shower worked well, and towels, bedding etc all clean. Bed and pillows comfortable. Hot room, no air con or fan. Having sea-front room though was a mistake as very noisy, didn't sleep well as had to have windows open. Tea bags provided were basic and not very nice, and there was ONE x 3 biscuit pack - for two people? Come on guys....... We didn't bother to eat them as they are obviously hard up. Breakfast good selection and cooked part v nice. Didn't like my tea served from a boardroom-style jug, or cheap tables (no cloths). Tea should be made freshly to order in a pot, or let you do it yourself. Our waiter kept saying 'cool' & 'wicked'. Ok, we are getting on a bit but this isn't very professional. Senior waiter on duty was very professional though. Loved Brighton, but wouldn't stay at this hotel again, especially not at this price!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel - there are loads in Brighton. However, we only wanted one night and most of t...

We have just returned from a 2 day mid week break at the Great Western Brighton booked through Expedia.
We travelled by train as we knew that parking in Brighton is expensive and difficult. It was a pleasant walk down hill from the station and the hotel has a good location on the sea front. We chose this hotel as it is slightly out of the centre of Brighton and thought it would be quieter. The lift was very small and just about fit two with luggage. Using the stairs was not very easy either as the stairs are very narrow and there are doors to negotiate at each floor. As it’s an old building once you were at your floor (we were on the 3rd floor) there were a number of stairs to negotiate both up and down to get to the room. Not all stairs had hand rails so would not be suitable to anyone with mobility issues. Overall I’d use this hotel again if there was a suitable offer but would not pay full price.
FOOD
We had breakfast included with our rate which was help yourself to continental/cereals/toast and then a choice from the cooked menu. It was adequate and we had a lovely view of the sea and the bandstand, but I would not have bothered if it was extra. The first day the service was excellent, the second we were forgotten, and so we the couple that came in after us, which meant that the toast we had prepared was cold by the time it arrived.
ROOMS
The bedroom was a reasonable size and had a side sea view and as we hadn’t paid extra for a sea view I was quite pleased about. It had the normal tea/coffee making, TV and hairdryer. As the building is old the floor was not level, but decoration and fixtures we good. The en-suite shower room was another matter, it was so tiny that you had to sit side saddle on the loo, getting dry in the shower room reminded me of my times holidaying in a caravan. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything in the adjoining rooms.
BAR
It has a very nice looking bar in which you can enjoy the views across the bandstand and sea, which was thoroughly ruined by a very loud TV.

Thank you for your review and constructive comments regarding the hotel. The hotel is converted from a series of town houses and has various sizes of rooms etc. We are starting a bathroom refurbishment in the autumn and although the size cannot change we can look at some of the layouts. I do hope you will consider staying again.

Went to Brighton for my birthday and the weather then decided to go a bit mental and snow an unseasonable amount, making travel a bit difficult. None the less, we arrived pretty much on time and to my surprise the room had been upgraded for no extra cost to one with a sea view and it was perfect. Does mean i am now unable to even consider booking a lesser room should I visit again though, so touché Best Western.
Brilliantly presented room and a very comfortable size, and what a great location too. I really wanted to mention something unusual to pick up on but it really is pretty faultless as a hotel. The steps are a little too easy to trip up on...

Room Tip: Don't pass out in bed at 2am when your friend needs to get back in a few hours later when you po...

We stayed at the Best Western in Brighton and do not recommend it. Grubby bedroom sofa which was stained & dirty window caused by seagulls. Large mugs were served at breakfast , no milk jugs or teapot no tablecloth & self service toast, which should be served with the full English breakfast No dinners or lunches are available so really a B& B. The staff were very friendly & helpful so the problem as we see it ,is the overall management.

Room Tip: view the room before you pay

I was disappointed that we did not meet your expectations on your recent visit to the hotel. The hotel is a three star Metro Hotel which is a town/city hotel providing full hotel services with the exception of a restaurant for lunch/dinner and within easy walking distance of a range of places to eat. Breakfast service has been designed after speaking to regular guests and is only part buffet with all hot food being serviced fresh and direct from the kitchen. This was felt as an alternative to a full buffet service which is regularly found in the majority of hotels.

What a disappointment this was. We have praised the Best Western in York, and chose to use Best Western again, but this fell completely short of expectations. The room was supposed to be a King Superior. What a joke. Torn curtains, no working shower, no hand rail in bath, only one key per room available. If this is Superior what ever would a normal room have been like. We will not be returning to this hotel.

I was disappointed to read your review and your comments regarding your room. I am not aware of any rooms with tore curtains etc however I will check to see if you registered a complaint during your stay so I know the specific room you are referring to. I have also asked the housekeeper to check all bedroom curtains to help identify the room.

My wife and I chose this hotel via The Train Line, since we needed to stay overnight in order to attend a close friend's funeral. Staff most obliging, only too happy to care for our baggage until we returned for it late afternoon after the funeral. The breakfast that morning was superb in both quality and presentation - I've never eaten fresher croissants outside France, and by no means always in France. Word of warning for anyone elderly and/or with doddery pins : try to ask for a room on the actual floor the lift stops at. Our room involved climbing up, and then down, some stairs after leaving the tiny lift.

Room Tip: See above if elderly

Thank you for your review and I was pleased that we managed to look after you at a difficult time. The hotel was converted many years ago and should guests require room close to stairs etc we always try to oblige. I do hope you will return and stay again under more pleasant circumstances.

We booked one night in a superior double room with a sea view. When we walked into the room (in the roof I think!) we were very disappointed as it was very small and clearly not a superior. However, on mentioning it to a very nice gentleman at reception, we were allocated a different room with no fuss or bother whatsoever. As a result, we had a wonderful room on the first floor, on the corner, lovely sea views, 2 floor to ceiling bay windows and a 4 poster bed which was very comfortable. Also, a very good size bathroom. So...after an initial disappointment, all turned out well. I would just add we had a nice breakfast, nothing special but perfectly adequate sitting by the window in the dining room. As previously mentioned, hotel is in a good location. As regards the parking, we didn't mind paying £15 as it would appear parking is not easy in Brighton and it was so convenient parking right by the front door.

I was pleased to read your review and that you enjoyed your stay. All our sea view rooms are classified as superior rooms and on this occasion we were able to give you a further upgrade. The views from your second room are great as they have a front and side view. I hope we can welcome you back to the hotel soon.
