“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2012

We keep coming back to this little gem - the food is always reliably good, sevice is excellent and value for money. One of my favourite local places to eat.

“If I had to choose my last supper; it would be here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

I should have written this review years ago as I confess we are regulars at the Ros Thai. We use it as a bench mark to compare other restaurants. Gus, the owner, is well known locally as he adds quirky good humour to every meal experience with his warmth and off-beat conversations. A casual tourist may be put off peering through the windows as the décor is nothing special; but the food is. A fantastic blend of flavours in every dish with a balance of spices that never overpower the food. Like most regulars, we have our favourite dishes, but all the food is of a high standard. Service can be variable but always forgiveable as reminding Gus of forgotten drinks has become half the fun! We cant say how authentic the Thai food is; all we know is that we love the flavours. The Ros Thai is a gem.

“A great family favourite that we have been visiting for years!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

I have been visiting this restaurant for years and have never been disappointed. The menu is excellent, catering for all tastes, however I always know exactly what I'm having before even getting to the restaurant. The Gang Ped (thai red curry) (with duck even though it doesn't say it on the menu) is divine with jasmine rice and crispy noodles, absolutely excellent! follows a chefs basket for two! I usually end up sharing banana fritters and fried ice-cream for desert. No disappointments here! Gus (the owner) and his wife are very pleasant and welcoming, and very Thai. The restaurant does not look special from the outside, and you could easily be put off, don't be. An excellent owner who is far from greedy, contempt with what he's got. I completely recommend it - the best Thai restaurant around!

“Revisit - even better impressions, and better value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2011

Just to add that we - two of us - went back here last week, and the management were most accommodating in trimming a set menu for four in such a way that we retained the dishes we most wanted. We ate pretty lavishly, and the house white, which is grapey and gorgeous, was as good as ever. Service was friendly and efficient. The surprise was the bill - very fairly calculated, based on the original menu-for-four price, and quite a lot less than we had expected to pay. Needless to say, we left a generous tip. By the time we left, the restaurant was full and turning people away. Takeaway trade is very brisk too. I hope they are doing really well: they deserve to.

“Friendly service, good food, quite expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2011

We usually stay in Rottingdean once or twice a year, and part of this 'event' is to go to Ros Thai restaurant. Our experience is always that it is a nice place to go - comfortable, friendly and pleasant. The food is always freshly prepared, and service in the early evening is therefore moderately- (but not super-) fast. It generally works out fairly expensive for a meal consisting of a main dish each, a soup each, noodles and fragrant rice. However, we always feel the experience is worthwhile. It has to be said that we have heard that the food is not entirely authentic, but the proprietor and his wife are undoubtedly Thai. It could be that corners are cut, and elevated dishes which should contain expensive ingredients which are left out or substituted, are advertised by their traditional name: we have certainly heard this said of some of the rice dishes. However, speaking as we find, we have never personally been disappointed, and the food is certainly served in an authentic Thai fashion.
