“Bit underwhelmed...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

I was a bit disappointed with this hotel, given the price. The staff on reception were friendly when we checked in and out. The room we had was clean and comfortable, but I agree with some of the other comments on here that a bit of a refurb would be good, as parts of the hotel and room were looking a bit tired. The shower definitely wasn't a power shower but, overall, the bathroom was OK. I've stayed in nicer hotels that have cost less than the Queens though.

Our room on the 2nd floor overlooked a club which was open until the early hours; but whenever I'm staying in a hotel, I always take earplugs to be on the safe side. Anyone staying in the centre of a party town like Brighton at a weekend should be expecting some noise from pubs and clubs.

The situation with breakfast really does need sorting out, however. On both mornings, there were not enough tables for the number of rooms occupied and we had to join a queue of people waiting to be seated for breakfast. I've not seen this before in a hotel or B&B. They should look at extending the breakfast seating out into the area surrounding the bistro at busy periods, such as weekends. When we did get seated, it was difficult to catch the attention of a waiter to get a cup of tea or coffee, usually you are offered this as you are seated. I would recommend that veggies contact the hotel beforehand - we didn't do this and my husband was left with very little choice for his hot breakfast. Oh, and as mentioned by someone else, the scrambled egg was pretty grim and the only choice of egg available.

The Queens is in a very convenient location and is adequate, if overpriced. Would I stay here again? Possibly, but I would look at other options first.

The hotel is really near to the pier and the lanes so good for shopping and nightlife (which you can hear loudly at night so either stay out until they close or make sure you are a heavy sleeper!)
Breakfast is a buffet and average, staff need to clean the lifts as always dirty! rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment, bathroom especially.

Could be an amazing hotel if they just updated it.

The hotel looks very dated and tired from the outside. Inside the decor is ok but nothing special. The room we had on the second floor had been redecorated but with a closer look the finish was pretty poor. The bathroom was small - the door didn't close properly and the handle mecanism fell off on the outside, which could have proved difficult if someone had been on the inside. The bed was comfortable and the room generally clean. The big pluses are the frindlyness and helpfulness of the staff and the proximity to the seafront. Howevr, the location also causes a problem as the nearby niteclub stayed open till 4am on Fri & Sat. The 'music' was clearly audible and the clientelle were also very vocal. We did consider asking to be moved for the Sat night but decided against it as we might have got a worse room as the howel was very busy with people down for the Brighton marathon (our reason for being there). I like the breakfast, my wife hated it! The most disappointing aspect was the price £370.00 for two nights B&B. We've stayed in far better hotels for less than that and even in hotels of a comprable price we've had much better rooms and facilities. On the whole I would not return to the hotel unlees it significantly lowered its rates and had further work done on the fabric - including better insulation against noise. really enjoyed our waliks around Brighton - the Lanes were charming and fun. Good food in local restaurants - and particulalry great lunchtime snak in a freah fish shop in the arches on the seafront.

Room Tip: If you don't like noise at night its probably best you don't stay here.

This hotel is directly on the main Brighton Road. The pier is a 5 minute walk away as are The Lanes, shopping centre and Odeon and loads of restaurants.

The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. We only had breakfast on the Sunday morning which was pleasant - they even brought me some gluten free bread which was awesome for a bacon sandwich!

The room was spotless, however the wifi wasn't consistent. The standard size room was really big in my opinion and the TV was a flat screen and also big. Great for chilling out before going out!

Overall we wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Really recommend it.

Absolute disgrace. Desperately in need of a refurbishment. Everything looks very dirty and tired. Stayed for Brighton marathon and paid £280 for two nights. Our room on the second floor looked out over the Fishbowl club which has a late license and serves until 3am at the weekend and 2am every other day including Sunday. Early evening okay but by 1am everyone drinking outside and shouting and arguing. And this is just one of the bars in the very close vicinity. Really no chance of getting a decent sleep at all. So many other better options. Okay for a clubbing weekend I suppose but then why would you pay this price?

Room Tip: Room with a sea view could be quieter

We stayed here for one night on a Thursday. The room we stayed in was very tired, there was cracked plaster on the walls, very worn carpets and draughty windows. In the bathroom, the bath was filthy and had definitely not been cleaned before we arrived. Tiles on the floor were cracked, and the grouting was peeling. Also we were not warned on booking that there is a nightclub behind the hotel. This was open until 4am and therefore I could not sleep until this closed. The only redeeming features of this hotel were the staff were extremely friendly, especially in the bistro. They couldn't do enough for you. Also the location was great for the seafront and the Brighton centre. I may stay here again but only in days the nightclub isn't open and if they have a refurbishment. Overall disappointing.

Checked in and spent 30 mins in room which was disappointing, dirty and dank. I tried to use the cheap iron but had to switch it of due the smoke coming of off it the staff were friendly, helpful and understanding when I checked out 30 mins later.
