Description: Having worked abroad for several years, husband and wife team Alan and Dawn Sperring returned to Brighton to find it in the grip of an enthusiasm for Indian food. They found the perfect spot in the cobbled lanes amongst the jewellery and antique shops of Meeting House Lane. The Chilli Pickle gradually but inexorably gained its reputation through word of mouth. As guests returned again and again, they knew that Brighton was ready for an authentic but distinctive experience of Indian cuisine. Gathering together an expert team of chefs with specialisms in a variety of Indian regional cuisines, the Chilli Pickle's own style became increasingly defined. After two and a half years at Meeting House Lane an unmissable opportunity came along: a move to the myhotel premises on the bustling Jubilee Square. The Chilli Pickle is now an established presence on the Brighton culinary trail, but with a constantly evolving and seasonal menu, will surprise seasoned aficionados of Indian cuisine and delight those having their first experience.

“Amazing!!!!!! ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Me, My Partner & 4Month Old baby came to dinner here with the in laws whilst on holiday, we called & booked so we could check it was child friendly.
They saved us a perfect table by the door so we could fit the buggy in & the staff were very friendly.
I can't eat spicy food so went for one with just 'one spice rating' & it was the most amazing meal I have had, so full of flavour & different!
I will 100% be coming back to eat here I can't rate it enough!

“Tempting menu - taste not top notch!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Popped into Chilli Pickle for a spot of lunch mid-shopping. Been eyeing it from the outside for quite a while - it's in a great location in the North Laines, and it always seems to be buzzing!

My friend and I both chose a "King Thali" - curry with a mix of side dishes - £14. Service was extremely prompt, arriving about 5 minutes about ordering - which always concerns a bit, but it's a busy restaurant and I probably chose a popular option so gave it the benefit of the doubt!

Positives of the dish - the Naan was good, well flavoured, neither greasy nor dry, great side. The small mango curry dish was a well matched accompaniment too.

Negatives - I chose a chicken curry in coconut sauce. Didn't take long to notice the chicken was overcooked - it was dry when cut, and although the sauce looked fine it tasted a little burnt. My friend had the fish curry and that was much nicer - far more flavour. The orange flavoured side tasted like sweet custard and didn't really compliment anything on the plate. The breads were all very "samey". The beetroot dish had little flavour.

Overall, the ambience was good, location fab and the food I still preferred it to the "traditional British" curry. However I had dined at the Curry Leaf Cafe (ship street) a few months earlier and FAR preferred their food - the individual flavours in the dishes all stood out and complimented each other. The Chilli Pickle dish was confused in comparison!

“A great twist on Indian food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

3 of us went in for lunch, and straight away the service was great, informative and attentive.
They had a mutton curry thali, which is very unusual to get, it's normally lamb. The way it was served to us, was authentic and delicious!!
I would highly recommend this restaurant if your in the area.

“Original and fabulous!”

Came highly recommended and didn't disappoint! We did a bunch of shared apps and mains and I'm so glad we did - everything was delicious. Favorite was the chickpea pocket app. Amazing!

“Pretentious and Fake”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Been here a couple of times before. Decided to give it a go tonight. Big mistake...Wants to be something it is not! Totally fake atmosphere, pretentious setting, and even worse food! Portions were small, expensive and lacked any sort of enthusiasm or originality. Many cheaper take aways in the area, far exceed in quality, taste, originality, and price.
