“It was OK I suppose”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

Looks a grand building but once insider this hotel looks quite tired, and that is just reception. The lifts are slow, the interior decoration dated and the room I had was a classic 1980s design. It was clean and the staff were friendly, its just crying out for refurbishment. Its quite a distance from town as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

Dear ChrisSussex72
Thank you for your valued review following your stay with us at the Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel.
It was disappointing to read that the Hotel did not fully meet your expectations. Many of the areas of the hotel have been refurbished in the last few years, although as you will appreciate with a historic building there’s always more do be done.
In addition our rooms do vary in size and décor and I’m also sorry that we were not able to offer you any alternatives that may have suited your needs better.
I was pleased to note that you found the hotel clean and the service received was friendly.
We hope that if you are planning to come back to Brighton, you’ll return to the hotel to see the ongoing improvements that we are making.
Kind regards
Matthew

The Mecure Brighton was a pleasant experience
The staff were very nice and effiicient
Rooms were clean and comfortable
The breakfasts were excellent and the restaurant dinners were good but a little lacking in choice
My only criticism was the cost of parking £15 per night (which was not transparent at the time of booking)

Dear jimmycasey
Thank you for taking the time to post your review following your stay at the Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel.
I was pleased to read that your stay was a pleasant experience and that you received our usual high level of service from the team here.
I acknowledge your comment about parking and am sorry if this was not clear to you at the time of booking. Parking is at a premium throughout the City and we do try to be as transparent as possible with all our pricing.
Thank you once again for your valued feedback and we hope to see you sometime soon back in Brighton.

The Mercure was obviously very grand, back in its heydey, and it's a shame that many of its original features have been lost or hidden due to modernisation, although the staircase and ballrom are beautiful. The room overlooking the sea was large, comfortable and very clean, and the reception and restaurant staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good but the standard dinner menu was pretty basis fare.

Room Tip: Overlooking the seafront.

Dear Spratwaffler

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay with us at the Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel.

I was pleased to note that you found your upgraded Executive Seaview room comfortable and clean and that you received our usual standard of helpful and friendly service from the team.

Like many old buildings ‘modernised’ in the 60’s and 70’s some of the features were bypassed without care and consideration. This said we are proud of the elements remaining including the wrought iron staircase which still bears the ‘NH’ relating to the Norfolk Hotel and the Doric Columns, and Lion Heads at the front of the Hotel.

I was please that you enjoyed breakfast and we are just about to change our Brasserie menu which I hope you might find more to your preference if you come back to see us!

Thank you once again.

Regards

Matthew

Never stayed at this hotel before but was very impressed. The staff were extremely helpful, in particular Paul or Peter Davies who seems to work the entire day. Sorry can't remember the first name but always had a smile and has exceptional customer service. The rooms were clean and spacious and had a sea view room on 4th floor. The only problem was the temperature of the room. Even with the window open and heating turned down, the room was extremely hot. There was a fan in the room but it would be better to have air conditioning. Don't understand why the main staircase has been ruined by the partition walls on each floor as would look really spectacular. Must be some building regulations. Book the breakfast the day before at reception as it is cheaper than on the day. We had the breakfast the first morning and it was so good, we had to have it every day. Really good hotel, good staff, in a very relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely stay here again.

Dear TwoDavids
A belated thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay with us in April 2012.
In particular I thank you for your kind works regarding the service received from Paul.
You are right that Fire Safety over the years has meant that the staircase had to be enclosed but at least this does mean it’s safer in the case of an emergency.
It was great to read you had a great stay and thought the Hotel was ‘really good’
I hope that we might be able to welcome you back soon.
Regards
Matthew

The Mecure Brighton Seafront Hotel is based around an old building, so you get narrow corridors and some strange layouts. However, it is in a good central location, with good bedrooms and it is above all clean. I had a courtyard room which was more than adequate for my needs. WiFi in the rooms at a price or it is free in the lounge areas, you need to decide what you want the WiFi for. I used it for emails and that was it. I only had breakfast in the hotel, it was a buffet with plenty of hot and cold choices. I would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: You have to be prepared to pay for a seafront room!

Dear AUKTourist

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post you review following your stay with us.

There’s no getting away from the fact that the Hotel is ‘old’ especially as it is officially a Grade II listed building! As you state there are some quirky features which we believe adds to the charm and character of the property. This quirkiness continues into our Mews rooms which surround a unique courtyard and I was pleased to note you found the room to offer everything you needed.

Whilst we do not currently offer Wi-Fi in our bedrooms there is complimentary access in the Lobby and bar and I was also glad to read that this met you needs.

Thank you for your feedback regarding breakfast and I do hope we might see you again sometime in the future.

Kind regards

Matthew

Had a great weekend here. The hotel is a bit out of town but a nice walk along the seafront.
We had a seaview room, well worth the extra money,it was large with a comfy bed and great views.
There is some road noise but quieter than those nearer town.
Breakfast was excellent. Didn't try the restaurant as great choice in town.
Well recommended.

Dear Fastannie

Thank you for your valued review following your stay with us.

I was delighted to read that you had a great weekend in the City and was satisfied with your upgraded sea view bedroom.

We are just a stroll from the centre and while there is the unavoidable traffic on the Kings Road, generally it is a fair bit quieter than being in the central districts!

We have been working hard to review our breakfast offering so I am also pleased that you thought this was excellent.

Thank you sincerely for your feedback and we do hope you will recommend us and perhaps come back and see us soon!

Warm regards

Matthew

Stayed 4 nights. Very nice hotel on the seafront. Staff were very polite and helpfull. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Our roommaid did an excellant job and was helpfull and pleasant. Didn't dine in the hotel so can't comment. Got a good deal on our stay from Laterooms. Only downside was that the room diidn't have a veiw and there was some outside noise during the night. Double glazing would have helped. Intend to stay again on our next visit to Brighton if we manage to get another good deal.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea veiw. The best pub / eating house in Brighton is on a backstreet just a few minutes wa...

Dear Balbyblade

Thank you for taking the time and effort to write a review after your 4 night stay with us.

My team and I strive to offer the best possible service and it was satisfying to read that you found everybody polite and helpful.

We do have a plan in place to look into installing double glazed windows to rooms in the original building which I hope will help avoid disturbance from individuals in the nearby residential areas.

We do have special offers (subject to availability) running through most seasons and I’m sure we can offer you a great deal when you are ready to come back!

Thank you once again.

Kind regards

Matthew
