“Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

We stayed at the umi for two night and found it excellent ,it was clean well decorated and near all the shops and places of interest and right on the sea front.
The staff were very helpful and obliging , both in the restaurant and behind the reception.
The breakfast was very good ,with a choice of hot or cold dishes, dinner again was very good and the price was very reasonable ,also one must mention the decor, one of the nicest places we have eaten in, most unusual, done as a theatre in red and gold very unusual .
There was a tray with tea and coffee etc. in the bedroom, and toiletries in the bathroom.
All in all a very good place to stay ,and for what we paid really good value for money, we would recommend this hotel to anybody and will if in Brighton again stay here without any hesitation.

Room Tip: we had a rear room without any view, maybe paying more would have been better.

we went in july. Great hotel old but fashionable. Staff is very friendly. We arrived early but checking in was no problem. Room overlooked sea and brighton pier. Great experience. Wifi is not optimal when staying on the fourth floor. In the lounge wifi is perfect.

I booked this hotel in June (it was still cold then!) to celebrate my daughters birthday when she was coming to visit with her two teenage kids.By paying a little bit more we got upgraded to Executive rooms with sea view etc. We chose to be on the 4th floor , therefore we had the view without the noise !! The rooms were clean and the tea and coffee making facilities were lovely.
The breakfast was a surprise everything was very fresh and well cooked .As far as the Restaurant is concerned we had a lovely dinner and very reasonably priced. The restaurant must be mentioned apart as it is built like an old fashioned theatre, with balconies and boxes red velvet and guilded! Every evening after 20.00 h aficionados of the bel canto congregate and all join in oper arias etc. Of course it is still early days and the hotel is still being refurbished. I should like to take this opportunity to wish all the best to the owners .

Room Tip: Higher floors are better .

Dear Guest
Thank you for your lovely review, it is much appreciated and will pass your kind comments onto our owner.
The Little Bay restaurant is a massive bonus to our building and very popular with locals as well as Umi guests, as you say with its unusual décor and live entertainment 7 nights a week, it really is a dining experience not to be missed.
Thank you once again and please make sure you return soon

Everything is great at night, the staff are excellent. Come the morning however, and the breakfast staff are horrible. Really did ruin the stay. I was here for work and we always made our best efforts with the staff, it's a shame the male morning staff were terrible.

I found this hotel during my journey by bicycle from Italy to London. No reservation, just found on the road and got a room. Clean, quiet, great location with sea view, nice restaurant.
Besides that, safe place to store my bicycle overnight.
Friendly and polite staff at reception.

I was very satisfied. The only little complain might be that windows can be open just a little and this was a problem since it was an hot day.

We booked this hotel at 11pm on the night that we wished to stay, ended up with a fantastic room with a sea view for just £80 for the night.

Very happy with this hotel. We didnt eat at the hotel as we were in too much of a rush the next day.

Just returned from a 3 night break with my partner , weather was fantastic , lots of people from all over the world enjoying being in Brighton. The hotel was an excellent location, opposite the beach and close to shops, restaurants, the lanes, amenities and arts & culture. Staff were friendly and helpful, standard rooms are a little tight, but clean & tidy. The wall ceiling fan in the bedroom was a little noisy & , clicking , may need changing, but overall average standard of hotel, can't really complain as it is on the doorstep of everything u need.

Room Tip: Try and get or book a sea view room, as your just looking at brick walls if at the back
