“First time in 4 star.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

Was my first time in a 4 star hotel and it exceeded expectations. Stayed in a Double room without a sea view but the comfort and size of the bed made up for the lack of view! Checked in late afternoon, enjoyed a few cocktails in the front lounge before setting off to soak up the rest of Brighton nightlife. Breakfast was also top draw with a selection of hot, cold and continental. Felt like a celebrity when they took my keys to park my car! No parking problems, very friendly staff - well worth it!

Had the ultimate pleasure of staying at the Grand in Brighton, this weekend. Lovely room, very comfortable room with excellent quality bed especially after completing the London - Brighton bike race.!
The bar staff young lads, very knowledgeable about Brighton, even brought over a map and gave directions. They served a lovely Martini, just right. Sandra one of the managers at breakfast was warm and really helpful, absolutely, nothing was too much trouble, with no fuss or snooty attitude, she as a breath of Gaelic air lovely....
Cant wait to come back in August for my birthday, and dine in.
Thank you all again, such friendly staff. Some people want to retire abroad, or by the sea i want to retire to The Grand.
Thanks so much for your welcome...
Jackie Borkett

Room Tip: Delightful decadence, with a warmth and friendliest that is hard to find.

Our stay here was a surprise birthday present for my partner. Spacious room and massive bed (we often struggle in smaller beds) which meant a great sleep. We also spent time sitting in the pair of armchairs and gazing over the sea. I honestly cant see the point of staying here unless you opt for the sea view. Fabulous lobby with a pianist playing during afternoon tea. I thought that hotel lobby pianists only existed in 50s films (!) Breakfast was stunning and we were lucky to be seated in the conservatory area again with a sea view. A real classy place.

Thank you for your review

I'm so glad you had a great time and everything was perfect for you from the pianist playing on arrival to the breakfast before departure.

The sea view rooms are a great place to while away a few hours watching the world go by and "dreaming"

Thank you again for your compliments

The doorman and young men taking our luggage were very pleasant and helpful on arrival but it was like madhouse in the reception and bar area it transpired that there had been a bike race and Brighton was heaving with bikers.Reception staff were having difficulties dealing with the amount of people booking in and the bikes! We found our room which was amazing on first inspection with a wonderful view great bathroom and bath in the room and a daybed by the window.Lovely balcony Room mostly good.Carpet will soon need a refresh.Good TV but could not work the Bose radio or coffee machine could have done with a hand book.
We were meeting friends for dinner and had read excellent reviews in the Telegraph so looked forward to a treat. The staff seemed very willing but not experienced.First course one dish was wrong and took ages to get the correct food.Second course the chips were not served that had been ordered and again took so long to be served that the other food was by then cold. Finally the dessert course seemed to have no relevance to the description on the menu.
Breakfast was also a mixed event with freshly cooked fried eggs with hard yolks and watery scrambled eggs.Service wasOK with smiling waiters.

Room Tip: front room with view is a must

Thank you for your review following your stay during the recent bike challenge event

This is a busy time and the added pressure of guests arriving on bicycles can make the Hotel feel a little chaotic ..... obviously we do our best to mitigate this but people arrive with a lot of kit and it can take some sorting out (plus many guest like to take their bikes to their rooms due to values)

However my main disappointment is with your comments about GB1. Generally we get fantastic feedback about this from guests (it has a separate Trip Advisor page for readers check out more reviews) so we clearly had a glitch and I am very sorry.

I will check that the "technology" in the type of rooms you stayed in has adequate explanation. Certainly I am aware it exists so we will ensure that if any needs replacing this is done

Thank you again for your constructive feedback and I can assure you that we will act on it

regards

What a contrast in 2 weeks. The dreadful experience of the Varsity Hotel in Cambridge one week and then the absolute pleasure of The Grand Brighton the next.

The Grand never fails to meet our requirements both by way of the helpful staff and the excel land food.

Had a romantic 2 night stay. Lovely sea view room on 6th floor.
Helpful staff, especially the lady overseeing entry into the GB1 restaurant.

Good quality,good value food.
Breakfasts a delight.

Secret here is to shop around the www for a good deal on the room.

All rooms recently refurbished, and it shows.

The Spa refurbished too. (You do have to book some form of treatment,to be able to use the Spa area.) Am now a converted Spa user!

Beware of overnight Car Parking charges! Worth doing your research first,as we found a local chap nearby, who charged half the hotel price for secure parking.

Thank you for your review following your recent stay at The Grand

I am delighted that you had a good stay and particularly enjoyed the breakfast and the spa. We have a couple of female breakfast hosts who both do a great job and so I will cover all bases by thanking them both for your feedback!

Car parking is quite expensive in Brighton per se ... the advantage of ours being it is located in the hotel and our concierge team will valet park it for you as part of our charge. Otherwise its a short walk to a local NCP at the back of the Hotel

Many thanks again for writing
