I booked a private tour for my brothers bachelor night, as part of a set of other halloween themed events.
Our guide came to collect us in a local pub and led us around various sites in the Brighton lanes explaining the history and the various areas of (ghostly) interest. He was dressed in full Victorian garb and carried a bell that chimed ominously as we walked from spot to spot.
As you might expect, to get the most from the tour you need to suspend your disbelief and allow yourself to be submerged in the atmosphere. It's a storytelling exercise to slowly build the tension and give you the creeps over the course of the tour. The guide was superb in this respect, captivating and entertaining in equal measure, with a great use of props. He also dealt rather well with the Saturday night hecklers you will occasionally get closer to the busier streets!
I would heartily recommend this for fans of local history and ghostly stories. Book a private tour at night for the best experience!
