“Very good but could do with less pomegranate sauce”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

The restaurant has seating over two floors with the toilets located on the third. There are 5/6 tables per floor with plenty of space between the tables. The decor is classic whilst being designer shabby at the same time. The waiting staff were very attentive and knew the menu well so were able to give some pointers. First impressions were very good.

The menu had a good selection of vegetarian, lamb, chicken and fish dishes. The starters were roughly £6-7 and main courses between £9 and £16. The quality of the food was very good. The only thing I would change is to use the pomegranate sauce sparingly. It has the tendency to overpower the flavours of some of the dishes and really shouldn't be served with the dessert.

This is a great restaurant and one that I would willingly return to.

“Hugely overpriced. Average food. Small portions.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013 via mobile

We dined here for an evening's meal and found the initial impressions very good. Lovely decor throughout and done to a high standard. Very pleasant and welcoming staff.

The drinks menu is adequate but a bit pricey at £4:00 for a small bottle of Becks.

But that is nothing in comparison to the menu pricing. In the case of the starters. £3:50 for a splodge of hummus with one olive plopped in the middle or £4:00 (!) for a similar plate of tzatziki - totally inadequate as single starters. The stuffed vine leaves whilst ok were only three for £4:00. Or the feta filos - two little rolls for £4:00 I think. They all need to be ordered as a meze with each person choosing two. Which then inflates the starter price to £10+ per person. Honestly - a £10 starter in other restaurants would have to something pretty special.

Next the mains - surprisingly very little price difference between the meat and veggie options - £13:00 for a stuffed Aubergine and £14:00 (ish) for "sizzling" lamb kebab. Now, if I see something is advertised as sizzling I think it entirely appropriate to expect it to be on a hot plate and come served sizzling - otherwise it's just a few lumps of lamb kofte on a flat bread and a lump of rice (which is what it was). The food was tasty but for the cost I'd expect more meat and much less "filler".

Overall - a pleasant place - would be dramatically improved by a decent sharing platter as a starter (and a price that reflects the true value). The mains need "beefing up" (no pun intended) on the quantity of meat and the veggie options should be cheaper - c'mon - that main course must cost less than a couple of quid to make.

Unless these things change I would not recommend and I would not return. It's a shame because they have done a great job with the decor and are very nice people and the food has opportunity for improvement.

“poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Having been recommended by a number of people I booked an evening meal with my partner. The service and presentation of the food can not be faulted however the starter and mains we both had tasted bland.Considering the style of food i was expecting big flavours but got bland plain rice, a salad of a few leaves and a chicken cassarole which tasted of water. My partner's chicken Kabab the best she could say was its just tasted of chicken. Can only say it was a very rainy quiet evening (3 other people in) and assume the chef must also had a quiet evening at home.

“Little gem of a restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

We booked this restaurant as it had been recommended to us and had excellent reviews on trip advisor.

We were not disappointed as this is an excellent restaurant and if you want something just a bit different you should go here!

The Pomegranate is small but intimate with a very relaxing atmosphere and welcoming staff.

We were spoilt by the choice but the lamb dishes are to die for. Wasn't going to have a dessert but we had the orange cake and baklava which was yummy!

If we were local we would come here every week!!

“Amazing restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We love Middle Eastern food and this restaurant has it all - gorgeous home made food, cooked just perfectly - spices, flavour and good value. Staff were looking after a large group whilst we were there and it didn't affect our service at all they were very professional and well organised. Great atmosphere and heartily recommend you give it a try
